4.0 out of 5 stars excellent DVD set Dec 23 2009
By Brenda Pink TOP 500 REVIEWER
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
Another one of BBC's "Wild" series and it ranks up there with the others. Not quite as expansive as Wild China, and a bit repetitious with some segments appearing twice through the set, which I why I gave it only 4 stars instead of 5. However, this DVD set gives an excellent view into life in and on the Pacific. Because the Pacific is an oceanic realm, much of the photography is underwater. There are also many scenes of bird life which are fascinating. Anyone sensitive to the plight of birds may want to know that, as in nature, many birds meet a ghastly end in these films. And, as in other of the "Wild" series, the films touch on the conflict between humans and nature. The last section touches on the future of the ocean and what programs may or may not help secure the future of some of these oceanic species. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars BBC is Incredible July 9 2010
I likely would not have bought this if it weren't created by BBC Earth.

This crew has a knack for being in the right place at the right time. I was amazed by their "Life" series and I have the "Planet Earth" series on the way. I was not disappointed with this Wild Pacific series.

These guys stand out in the world of documentary films. They travel to exotic destinations throughout the Pacific and continue to break new ground capturing animals and events that have never before been filmed. I found the high definition footage from underneath the waves just awesome on the big screen. This series and BBC Earth's film work in general shows off the clarity of my high definition television set up.

I can't imagine someone being disappointed with any BBC Earth product considering the great lengths they go to for excellence in film production. They've earned my deepest respect.

Well done BBC !!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great 6 part series, do not miss this! Nov. 14 2009
Format:Blu-ray|Verified Purchase
Outstanding photography and excellent writing make for a great show worth watching several times.
Monkey Skinks, Ground Parrots, and self fertilizing Geckos intercut with astounding photography of waves like you've never seen them and things about native people of Hawaii and other islands that will surprise you.
Just when I've seen it all along comes this excellent series.
This team should do more....

5.0 out of 5 stars Jaw dropping... May 20 2011
Most BBC documentaries are visually dazzling, but South Pacific (original UK name) takes this to a whole new level. It is without a doubt the most beautiful of any BBC Earth series and is alongside Life and Planet Earth in terms of content quality. A must see!
