This review is from: Wilderness Navigation: Finding Your Way Using Map, Compass, Altimeter, & (Paperback)
I have been a Search Master/Manager for some time. Purchased this book (and others) solely as a reference guide to see if it could assist me in assisting others in how to learn navigation using compass, altimeter, GPS etc. The title within "Mountaineers outdoor basics" indicated to me the level of complexity.
It is a superb book for those who are starting out or who have been absent from this area of skill for some time. It clearly educates you in the basics and some common mistakes in areas titled tips.
Book is well laid out and can be used by age groups from early teens to adults. Sound product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent introductory volume, May 8 2003
By A Customer
I have been teaching orienteering for seven years, and this book is everything I could ask for in an introductory text. There are more advanced books, it is true, but this book is reasonably priced, highly readable, and complete enough for the beginning through intermediate adventurer.
