3.0 out of 5 stars Thanks, Geoff. Jan 3 2012
Format:Paperback
An old friend of mine gave this book to me while we were still in high school. I read it hoping to learn more about the man, but Jim Morrison remains an enigma and is impossible to know. His poetry is insightful and full of hormones and shares unique perspective about intensely human issues.

5.0 out of 5 stars Skeptic turned believer... July 20 2004
Format:Paperback
I picked this book up with skepticism, poetry from a famous rocker, such a cliche. There are so many of them out there with poetry books. What surprised me is how deep his poetry is. It makes you think and actually try to get into his mind to find secret messages and trap doors. There are several previous comments that rate this book lower than 5 starts because it is hard to understand. Well, poetry is supposed to be hard to understand. It is supposed to make you think. For what other purpose would it exist?

4.0 out of 5 stars experimental verse July 8 2004
Format:Paperback
In his prologue to this book, Jim Morrison expresses his belief that "real poetry doesn't say anything, it just ticks off the possibilities". So, this philosophy imbibes these poems. Unfortunately for us, that means many of his poems are hard to understand. But there are always some wonderful lines here and there, like exquisite flowers appearing among the weeds.
