3.0 out of 5 stars A nice horsey read for kids, Sep 25 2010

This review is from: Wildwood Stables #4: Learning to Fly (Mass Market Paperback)
I am an adult and this was my first introduction to the Wildwood Stables series.

Taylor loves horses and loves working at Wildwood Stables. She is very conscientious and is careful to do right by all the animals in her care. And she's always eager to learn - in this case, to learn to ride english and jump.

There's a wide range of characters, but it felt to me like the author spent a lot of time going over every character's backstory rather than giving them depth in the current story. Truly, it wasn't necessary to summarize the events of every previous novel to have this one make sense.

I was irritated by a few horse accuracy mistakes and by an unnecessarily implausible ending, though most of the horse care and riding scenes were well written.

The book is very readable and kids in the target age range of 9-12 will enjoy it.
