Being a Christian is not just a passive expression of individual choice in our religious preferences. Being a Christian requires a higher level of commitment: to God, to our fellow believers, and to ourselves. It is an active process that requires the full person and can take your whole lifetime to work at. The way to work at it, however, may not always be clear and it is good to be given guidance by those who have "walked the walk" ahead of us. Bobby Hopper is one such person, and his book "Win, Build, and Send" is a wonderful guide for implementing the message of the Gospel in our daily lives.
The three verbs from the title are the three commandments that are meant to reorient our lives and bring them closer in line with Christ's Great Commission: "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." (Matthew 28:18-20) Based on that commission all of us are called to win over souls for Christ, beginning with the most important soul - our own. We are also called to build our own faith and communities of faith that we belong to, and once we accomplish that to share the gifts that we have been blessed with with others.
This book is filled with numerous examples from the author's life that illustrate the messages that he is trying to get across. Many of these stories are extremely poignant and touching, and they give us hope and encouragement to persevere through many personal trials and tragedies that we may be going through. Each chapter of the book also has several Biblical passages that are the most relevant for that particular topic. At the ends of chapters you'll find questions for study and reflection. Many more questions can be found at the end of the book, and the book is best used as study material. Studying it could be done individually, or as a part of a small study group.
Overall this is a wonderful book that can help anyone with deepening their Christian faith and putting that faith to practice in our daily lives.
