Book Description

The winds of fortune are fickle guides...and happiness or heartbreak may be the destination.

For Provincetown local Deo Camara, the only winds that have ever blown her way have been cold and lonely, and she doesn't expect things to improve when she is drawn into a family crisis against her will. Despite a decade of estrangement, however, Deo can't turn her back on the call of blood, no matter how high the price in heartache. Dr. Bonita Burgoyne is pleased with the changes she's made in her life...she has a rewarding new job and is looking forward to renovating the historic sea captain's house she has just purchased. She's content, and that's all she needs to be, or so she thinks until she hires Deo to head up the renovations. They have nothing in common except a shared legacy of betrayal by those they'd trusted the most, and an impossible attraction they would both prefer to ignore. Meanwhile, Bonita's new associate Dr. Tory King and her partner, Reese Conlon, must cope with the aftermath of the winds of war and the approaching fury of a very real gathering storm.

The fifth in the saga of the Provincetown Tales.

The Jacket reads:

"The winds of fortune are fickle guides ... and happiness or heartbreak may be the destination.

For Provincetown local Deo Camara, the only winds that have ever blown her way have been cold and lonely. Despite a decade of estrangement, however, Deo can't turn her back on the call of blood, no matter how high the price in heartache. Dr. Nita Burgoyne has her own family secrets, a past so painful she starts a new life in hopes of leaving it behind. She has a rewarding new job and an historic sea captain's house in need of renovation - all she needs to be content. Or so she thinks, until she hires Deo to head up the renovations. They have nothing in common except a shared legacy of betrayal by those they'd trusted the most, and an impossible attraction they would both prefer to ignore.

Meanwhile, Nita's new associate, Dr. Tory King, and her partner, Sherriff Reese Conlon, must cope with the aftermath of the winds of war and the approaching fury of a very real gathering storm."

5.0 out of 5 stars Experience women loving women in a life affirming romance, Nov 4 2007
By Cheri Crystal - Published on Amazon.com

If it's more than sizzling sex that you're after; more than getting intimate with three dynamic couples you'll absolutely love and admire; more than pure escapism just for the joy of it; more than character journeys that help make sense of the world; and more than a truly engaging story that makes you feel like you're home; then Winds of Fortune by Radclyffe is the book that will fuel your desire like a bonfire.

Provincetown sheriff Reese Conlon is back from serving as a marine in the War on Terror and is a little more than shell-shocked. Her partner, Dr. Tory King, is grateful to have her back even if they both have to figure out how to cope in the aftermath of Reese's tour of duty. Police Officer Bri Parker and her partner Carolyn are as tight and adorable together as ever. And the new kids on the block, Tory's new associate, Dr. Nita Burgoyne and construction company owner Deo Camara will blow you away.

Deo is a player who can have any woman she wants except Nita. Watching them dance around courtship as each woman discards her baggage one layer at a time before hopefully making the ultimate sacrifice, is truly something to see, and is more than reason enough to read Winds of Fortune. But for me, the real reason to read anything written by Radclyffe is way deeper than girl gets girl. I marvel at how deeply devoted these women are to each other; how much they care; and how truly protective and supportive they are for their chosen family. It would make anyone, gay or straight, long for such profound love and commitment in their life. Radclyffe shows how one's gender has nothing to do with it, and that being human and needing love to survive does.

Winds of Fortune is the fifth novel in the Provincetown series and it's a wonder how Radclyffe can write so many sex scenes, so many novels in each of her series, and still keep it hot, fresh and so alive that the scenes radiate off the page and you can't wait for the next date. Find out how Reese, Tory, Bri, Carolyn, Deo and Nita weather the storm. Do not miss Winds of Fortune to catch up with some of your favorite characters, who feel more like friends than fiction. Experience women who love women in every sense of the word in an affirming and uplifting manor that will warm your heart. Radclyffe delivers this and more. For a fast-paced, erotic romance that will stimulate every nerve in your body, then Winds of Fortune is for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathlessly awaited and better than I had hoped!, Oct 28 2007

Having just gotten back from a 9 day trip to Provincetown, Massachusetts I could not have been happier to read this novel set in this gorgeous and charming town. Spiritus Pizza, The Vixen, The Squealing Pig, Pied Bar, Angel Market, all the places I had just been to and more.

Again the author brings back characters from earlier novels and they are as true to form in this book as when they first appeared. Her depiction of the intensity of Tory's emotions in chapter three was so real to life I had to put the book down and pause before I could continue reading.

The new characters of Nita and Deo were interesting and unique in their own right. The author wove them into the setting and the lives of the earlier characters seamlessly. I thought it was perfect to have the main characters renovating one of the many gorgeous old homes that populate the town.

I really admired Nita's gentle strength and I found her back story fascinating.

The author submerges the reader in the life of the occupants of the town and you end up caring for them as if they were your neighbors. The beauty of the setting makes you think this could be a wonderful place to live.

I was especially charmed with Allie, her growth of character through the novels is really excellent in it's believability and so vivid that I hope she appears in another novel.

This is a keeper.

3.0 out of 5 stars Deftly woven tale handled by a master - 3 1/2 stars, Dec 3 2007

I'll start off by saying that I rarely read anthologies or short stories because I'm always left wanting more, to know more, to experience more. That's just my quirk, and perhaps my attention deficit disorder, but it colors my reviews. For me this book hit a lot of similar buttons of mine: with so many characters going about their lives I sort of get frustrated and left with the over all impression that the book was somewhat shallow.

However, Radclyffe is so skilled at transitioning between the sets of characters and interweaving the story lines, that I can't stay annoyed. Other authors are not able to pull this off nearly so well. I've complained on multiple books about the lack of transitory language, and connection between scenes, and this is something I never have to worry about with Radclyffe. It's such a pleasure to just experience, and that alone is worth the extra half star.

I've loved the characters of Tory and Reese since Safe Harbor, and was pleased with the peace they found in this outing. Bri has grown on me; and Allie actually stopped being annoying in this book. I too would like to see a book with more of her, and her journey to getting her life together. Meanwhile, my enjoyment at getting to spend time with this family (I forgot, KT and Pia are also back in supporting roles) lends this book more depth than if it was written in a vacuum. Nita and Deo are intriguing, and their courtship is fraught with past hurt and anger, and it's nice to see them find kindred souls in one another.

Well worth the time of fans of this series, but if you haven't read any of the previous books, you'll like it, but you'll probably also wonder what all the fuss is about in what appears to be a fairly standard romance.
