Best Narration for the Beloved Bear, Jan 3 2007
By Living With Passion - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Winnie-the-Pooh (Audio CD)
We had these books on tape several years ago for our older kids, so when we added a baby this year we knew that the cd's had to be found for him. We looked all over for them, and were so happy to finally find them on Amazon! Peter Dennis is the perfect narrator for the Pooh stories (the real Christopher Robin certainly agreed!), so even though we found the books on cd by other narrators before finding these, we chose to wait until the Peter Dennis set could be found. He does such a wonderful job on the voices of the characters, and he switches back and forth so naturally and smoothly that he makes listening to the books a true pleasure. Not only are the cds soothing and fun to listen to for the baby and for the kids, but they're also fun and nostalgic to listen to for the parents. They aren't annoying to listen to like a lot of other kid-oriented cds can be.
If you're looking to give your child some listening enjoyment that won't hype him or her up with too much craziness, and you love the classic beloved Pooh Bear, then these are for you!

Couldn't be better, Feb 17 2008

I am so pleased to have finally found this recording on CD! Perhaps I shouldn't admit this, but my owning the cassette recording predates my having children. The narration is perfection, and Dennis's interpretation of each of the characters is both precise and inventive. The sniggling noises (? - I honestly don't know how else to describe it) that accompany his rendering of Piglet are incredibly endearing, as are the subtle details he uses to render each old friend anew. The other notable aspect is the music that transitions between the readings -- lovely, melodic, soothing yet cheerful.
As a parent, I prefer the tales of classic Pooh (back when a Heffalump was an imagined menace, rather than a pastel elephant), but it's sometimes hard to commit to reading the classic stories in full, as they are quite long, and I know my children are accustomed to more visual picture books. This recording allows us to spend all the time we want in the Hundred Acre Wood: we are transported there without effort and always return refreshed from the journey.

A masterful actor brings these seemingly innocent stories to life. The stories have many profound lessons for preschool age and young children and they neither hammer the lessons over the head nor speed by them too quickly to be grasped.
Most importantly, the stories are so lovingly crafted by Milne and performed by Dennis that adults AND children can enjoy listening to them again (and again, and again) with pleasure...something that cannot be said of much contemporary literature. My daughter listened to the book on tape REPEATEDLY this year and here I am buying the CD set because our new car has no cassette player and we are both unhappy without having her favorite school-ride stories to turn to.
