I thought this was a great book to help me look at how I can improve in my Solo racing. This book goes into great detail on not just driving techniques, but the need to plan before and after your runs. He covers topics I wouldn't have thought of as helpful to really improving my times. This is my 3rd season in Solo and I think it will be invaluable as I move up a class this season to try and become a better driver. If there is one thing to take away from the book, it's to remember to fix the driver before you try and fix the car.I think this is a great book for everyone who Solo races whether novice or seasoned veteran.

Yogi Berra said 50% of baseball is 90% mental. After you read this excellent book on how to win at autocross, you will agree that Yogi was never more correct. This is not a book designed just to make you faster. It's designed to teach you how to think like a winner and by doing so, help you to become the best driver you can be. While there is plenty of instruction and advice on how to approach an event and even a corner, for me the real value of this book comes from the explanation on how to use mental preparation as an unfair advantage. It's not a book about the Zen of autocrossing, just a book on how mentally prepare for a run so you do not beat yourself!I have been instructing on race tracks for years and the advice I give my students is, at the end of the day, to sit in a chair and mentally drive the track. Visualize the course. Feel the braking. Shift and turn as you would on the track and thereby relive (and imprint) the track in his or her brain. My approach is much more elementary than the approach given here and I plan to modify my technique and advice based on what I have learned.
This is not a book just for the novice although a novice would learn a lot. I would say that an experienced autocrosser would benefit more because this book helps you better understand the mental side of the sport - something you might never learn on your own.

When I first bought this book I wasn't expecting much since there were already 5 books in the Speed Secrets Series. Luckily I was surprised when I found out this book would become my favorite in the series. I've been driving for 2 years now, and one of the first things I did was to buy the first Speed Secrets. That alone made my learning curve very sharp, from karts to cars I used his books to help me become a podium driver. As a fan of his series it appears as though he's taken the best out of his other books and combined them along with specific Auto-x techniques to make this book. Bentley goes through actual physical and mental techniques to help you maximize your seat time and to give you the foundation to practice while you're at home. This is the one in the series I take with me to track days and Auto-x's to review before my sessions. I've bought 3 copies in the past month as presents for friends that are also drivers. Winning Auto-X Techniques is easily the best driving handbook for any racer.
