Dancing In Darkness Dec 25 2003
By Clarissa - Published on
I've only just begun to watch vol. 1: Arrival of the Witch Hunter Robin series and am so glad I went ahead and bought the limited edition collector's box set or else I would have had to spend nearly the same price for the original soundtrack (composed and conducted by Taku Iwasaki) by itself, which was fortunately included. Even if the show does nothing for you, the music that accompanies it is absolutely stunning and definitely worth having! The melodies compliment and capture the ambiance and the intriguing mystique of this action-filled anime cloaked with supernatural forces rather nicely, but it's also something you can sit back and enjoy on its own. Most of the songs are dark and moody with a great blend of light electronic beats, Gregorian chants, string orchestrations and rockin' guitar/drum parts that oftentimes interweave each other, keeping the flow at an even pace, but there's also some soothing piano and chime atmospherics as well as a couple smooth jazz numbers that set a more romantic tone. I just wish the opening and closing tracks, "Shell" and "Half Pain", which are the only tunes that feature Japanese singing (both with female vocals), weren't the TV edit versions. But aside from that flaw, I personally feel that this soundtrack is divinely fiendish!
