1.0 out of 5 stars Boring, poorly translated, Sep 28 2010

This review is from: Wives of the Holy Prophet (Paperback)
This was obviously written originally in another language as the translation is lacking. The book, supposed to be about the wives of the Prophet, spend nearly half of the book before actually getting to the topic! Don't waste your money.

3.0 out of 5 stars Mohammad's 12 Wives, July 31 2010
By William Garrison Jr. - Published on Amazon.com
"Wives of the Holy Prophet" by "Fida Husain/Hussain Malik", first published around 1952, published in 1994 with a "revised edition: 2001", published by "S. Sajid Ali" for Adam Publishers, Delhi, India, 160 pgs, paperback. Chapter topics are: (1) The Condition of Women before Islam, (2) Status of Woman after the advent of Islam, (3) Polygamy in Islam (rooted in Arabia, good for a barren wife), (4) Purdah (veiling for seclusion), (5) Mohammad's wives: Khadijah, Sawdah, Aishah, Hafsah, Zaynab bint Khuzaymah, Umm Salamah, Juwayriyah, Zaynab bint Jahsh, Umm Habibah, Safiyyah, Maymunah, Maryam Qibtiyah, (6) Conclusion. The author wrote: "As an alumnus of Islamic institutions, I propose to devote this little book of mine to the vindication of the Holy Prophet's position against slanderous attacks on his matrimonial life...." (p.1). The author discusses polygamy and concludes it is okay since Mohammad revealed that Allah allowed it. He concedes that Mohammad married Aishah when she was nine. The author reveals ahadith from Mohammad regarding inheritance, marriage, and divorce. Regarding Mohammad's `marriage' to Safiyyah, the author opined: "...a helpless captive of the war of Khaybar, a Jewess of very noble birth, had to be given asylum in the house of the Prophet. This was Safiyyah who captivated the Prophet's heart by her Divine theory of universal love for persons of all castes and creeds. Incidentally, it established the tradition of political fraternity with the Hebrew race. After this marriage the Jews never fought against Islam... "(p. 149-150). The author fails to note that during one of Mohammad's raids Safiyyha's husband had been killed and Mohammad took the beautiful woman as booty. (For a critical comparison view see: "The Truth About Muhammad: Founder of the World's Most Intolerant Religion" by Robert Spencer.)
