About the Author
L. Frank Baum (15 May 1856 - 6 May 1919) was a US author, poet, playwright, actor, and independent filmmaker best known today as the creator, along with illustrator WW Denslow, of one of the most popular books in US children's literature: The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. He wrote thirteen sequels, nine other fantasy novels, and a plethora of other works, including 55 novels, 82 short stories, and over 200 poems. Paul Hess studied graphic design and worked for many years as an art director. He began illustrating full-time in 1991, working chiefly for the design and advertising industry, and now has illustrated several children's books. Paul was awarded the Association of Illustrators Best Unpublished Illustration Award in 1993 and the Association of Illustrators Gold Award for children's book illustration in 2002.
