Well, seeing Jason Aaron’s name at the top of this book didn’t inspire a whole lot of confidence, but I had no idea it would be THIS BAD! Aaron may be a skilled writer in other genres or on other titles, but he is most definitely NOT in this format or on this book. This book has very little resemblance to any X-Men book I’ve ever read in the past – aside from other offerings by Aaron. Why do I say that?
Everything is off, here. The characters don’t act like themselves, for one thing. The mutants’ school is some sort of conglomeration of alien tech that involves floating buildings, living grounds, and all sorts of other ridiculousness. The villains aren’t believeable, threatening, or cool. There really isn’t anything about this book that I can ever rate as “good”. I hate the characters – both the heroes and the villains. I hate the plot. I hate the artwork. I hate the poor characterization of well-known characters and the introduction of completely unlikeable characters. This is some of the worst storytelling I have ever read in a Marvel comic, and definitely the worst I have ever seen in an X-Men comic.
Listen up Marvel! Get Aaron off this book ASAP! It totally sucks! What a waste of time reading this nonsensical hogwash. Avoid this book like the plague! If only I could rate it lower...
