Elegant B&W photos Dec 15 2013

This collection of figure photos studies the ways that women's beauty expresses elegance and glamor. High heels and “done” looks predominate and, most often, the model's long, lean lines and animal grace contribute most to the composition. The model's personality always comes through, perhaps with a sidelong look or with the sense of play in that ice-skating series.

Stefan May doesn't challenge the viewer with a woman's most intimate details or with explicit eroticism. A few images feature models in groups or pairs, even embracing – but the touches between them seem chaste and Platonic. Sexuality stays low-key, more a part of each woman's potential than something explored directly. The photographer does, however, use a wide palette of colorings in his models, from blondes with wispy, pale hair to the deepest, glossy dark. That kind of range doesn't appear often in figure photo collections, and I'm very happy to see it here.

If the simple fact of womanly beauty appeals to you, you'll find a lot to like in this gorgeous study.

Not a masterpiece, but a fairly good photography book March 22 2009

I collect nude photography books, I have many. I must tell you, this particular book is not a masterpiece. Nevertheless, the book is above average, and some of the shots are amazing.

It does lack a real artistic subtext on the shoots, but they are beautiful, and unlike most books, there is quite a mixture of races (most books I've seen around tend to have almost exclusively Caucasian models). Also, a few shots are two-pagers, what tends to be a downer for me.
