5.0 out of 5 stars The greatest manual since the G-spot books that came out in the early `80s May 10 2010
By Susan Schenck - Published on Amazon.com
Author Sheri Winston, CNM, RN, BSN, LMT is a sex educator who gives workshops on "Wholistic Sexuality," her trademark unique perspective. In this book she integrates ancient wisdom, lost knowledge and modern sexual information in a fun, empowering way.

Sheri says, "It's hard to believe that in this day and age, so much information about female genital anatomy is missing from our science, our media and our minds...Very few people know about these parts or understand how they enable both reproduction and erotic ecstasy...Many professionals, including sex teachers and gynecologists, don't have accurate or complete maps, either." And Sheri does a great job of remedying our ignorance with this book.

Women's Anatomy of Arousal is filled with info sure to enable women to higher levels of sexual ecstasy, and to enlighten men on how to become any woman's dream lover. The book is divided into three sections, with section one being "Maps, Models and Mistakes."This includes a list of five different types of orgasms, the definition of wholistic sex, the definition of sexual energy, the differences between men and women when it comes to sex, and lots more. There are tons of drawings from various traditions of couples engaged in love making.

Section two is "Journey to the Origin of the World," with the first chapter being "Welcome to the Yoniverse" (a great pun; for those of you who don't get it, "yoni" refers to female genitals). There are many drawings and diagrams of female "sacred places." WOW. I didn't realize we varied so much! There is also a chapter on female erections and another on the vagina. There is a list of the various hormones that make us enjoy sex and fall in love, plus much more.

Section three is a how-to guide, now that you are educated on sex and female anatomy. Sheri likes to coin words such as "heart-ons," and also gives us "slut tricks" (using the word playfully, not in a derogatory sense, of course). The final chapters are "Energy Magic and Smart Slut Tricks" and "The Easy Girl's Guide to Making it Easy for Guys."

The book has plenty of eye candy besides the nude women, female gentialia and lovers. Sprinkled throughout are info-boxes such as "Hot Tips for Guys," "The Goddess Guide," and "The Guided Tour" (in which women are given homework to explore their bodies). There are also quotes by famous people such as the Buddha, Woody Allen ("I'm such a good lover because I practice on my own.") and many others. Readers are also given homework in "Play and Practice" sections.
I really love the wholistic nature of this book. It makes the greatest sex manual since the G-spot books that came out in the early `80s! Sure to make many couples very ecstatic.

5.0 out of 5 stars This Book Makes Love to the Reader May 23 2010
By New Zoo Reviewer - Published on Amazon.com
As a man who regards himself as a very good lover (okay, a great one -- which of us don't?), it can be tempting to brush off sex books with a "that's okay, I know what I'm doing." Translation: The ladies like what I do for them. Translation of translation: If I admit I've got something to learn, you might think I'm not great in bed.

I'll argue that a confident lover WANTS more guidance and an unconfident lover says he doesn't. Both types will benefit to great lengths (and widths) from this Operating Manual. That's right, fellas, this book grows your EPS ("effective penis size") from the new insights one gets about what makes women tick (and get off), from the anatomical information that really shows the schematics and how all the parts actually work (finally!), and from the really, really useful techniques to up one's game.

One of the coolest things about the book is that it's delivered in clear, fun, funny, playful, coquettish, yet seriously informed language, tone, and style. It busted my stereotype of books "like this," that they are either too clinical, too woo-woo, or too chick flick. Instead, it was like the author's a bigger football fan than I am -- but I can really hang with her, and she still knows how to make me feel I'm a man.

And you know what, the insights and guidance really do work. I mean, I'm applying it and I'm a better lover (because I have much better understanding of how to "work it"), having greater sex than before, and really giving, as well as getting, a lot more pleasure.

Thank you Sheri Winston!

5.0 out of 5 stars Profound, fun, and life-changing April 23 2011
By Cindy Harvey - Published on Amazon.com
As a middle-aged, plus-sized, average woman married 25 years who had never experienced a climax, to stumble upon this book has been an incredible blessing, to say the least. After reading it aloud to my husband on our road trip to the beach, we found freedom, healing, and other pleasures unknown to me before including (my first as well as) several orgasms. My husband also mentioned several times how helpful, detailed, and encouraging the book was for him. We are both so encouraged!

I have been a doula as well as birthing my 6 kiddos naturally....I had resigned myself to being satisfied with my ability to birth naturally and help others reach that goal, but had given up on ever having orgasm. I've tried to be content with the success and sacredness of the procreating part of my sexuality, and accept that I just wasn't ever gonna really like or 'get' the sex part. One of the important things I discovered through Sheri's book was that so much of the feelings and words I use with my doula clients are mirrored in sexual response. Why this surprised me, I don't know, but her book helped me tap into those resources. I've always loved birth, but now I can say I've experienced BOTH sides of my female sexuality. Of course there's much more than this particular connection in the book, but it was one point that really helped me due to my experiences with giving and coaching birth.

I can't say what made me order this particular book except that I had been having a mind and heart shift recently, read the reviews, and I dared to grasp a shimmer of hope that someone could help me try again. Thankfully, Sheri's Women's Anatomy of Arousal was a perfect fit. Her relaxed tone, fun personality, and extremely clear illustrations and instructions were exactly what I've needed and craved from a sex manual. Although I can understand the book might seem offensive to some due to her use of 'charged' words, artwork, and uninhibited embrace of all things sexual (I'm a fairly conservative mother after all), her tone and intention stem from a pure motive; to enlighten us that human beings are created to enjoy sex as a connected and intertwined part of our existence, and this is why our bodies/minds/hearts/spirits are hardwired for incredible pleasure. Sometimes we need a direct, forthright, and boldly presented path to find our way through the jungle of shame, mixed cultural messages, and the constraints of society. If that's where you find yourself, needing a fun-loving, extremely knowledgeable, supportive and affirming guide, take Sheri's hand and enjoy the journey!

5.0 out of 5 stars Women's Anatomy of Arousal May 30 2010

This is the BEST BOOK EVER! I am an owner of a "sexy boutique" - Va Va Vooom - in Asheville NC, designed especially for the pleasures of women. This book is always placed prominently in my store as a "must read". Women's Anatomy of Arousal covers so much territory in such a wonderful way. The author, Sheri Winston, a nurse (RN, BSN), a midwife, and a sex educator, combines visuals of erotic art down through time with scientific diagrams; simple instruction with thorough explanations, and historical analysis with very contemporary (hot! lusty!) language. I have heard it said that a genius is someone who can take complex ideas and present them in a way that they will be easily understood, and this author accomplishes this beautifully.

I especially recommend this book to any person who has any history of sexual shaming which may be impeding their joy. This book overcomes all objections to natural pleasures by examining sexuality within cultural, religious and historical contexts, and by giving much needed permission to be playful, exultant and orgasmic in one's own body and in that of a partner. I would like to initiate a conspiracy to get this book into the hands of as many people as possible. Buy it for your girlfriend, leave it in the john for your guy, put it under your teen's pillow, send it anonymously to your mom or dad, propose it at bookclub - whatever. This information needs to be out there, and this book presents it brilliantly. Pass it on!

5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite sex ed for grown-ups April 10 2010
By Liz Langley - Published on Amazon.com
When you were taught sex ed in school - if you were taught sex ed in school - how much of it do you remember?
Honestly, I don't remember almost anything. We all knew what went where in regards to intercourse but as we grew older we didn't get a lot of schooling in regard to any of the attendant aspects that make sex good sex: sensuality, passion and mostly the fact that this would all take long while and a lot of honest exploration to learn (which sure wasn't the way it seemed in the movies).
Those of us who grew up in the 70's and 80's were a little luckier to at least have "Our Bodies, Ourselves," and Dr. Ruth to help us but despite those boosts a lot of things about sexuality remained mysterious and confusing. It would have been great to have an older sister - a smart one that you could talk to who knew everything but wasn't awkward, like your mom or teachers.
Sheri Winston is that sophisticated sister, the one who not only knows the score but knows how to convey it to you in language that's thoughtful and comfortable. The more you learn from her the more you're ready to hear.
Last year I attended and wrote about Sheri's workshops and this year much of the material she covers in her lectures are happily combined in "Women's Anatomy of Arousal: Secret Maps to Buried Pleasure." I've actually felt myself physically relax just reading Sheri's gentle, insightful book which explains "wholistic" sexuality as embracing the body, mind, heart and spirit all working in concert to make beautiful, freeing music together. She's a wonderful teacher both live and on the page and this book is a treasure chest of ideas for immediate and long-term gratification and sexual health and happiness.
