Accessories like the Pocket Oxford Dictionary and Corel's Application Recovery Manager make life easier for users and administrators alike. The advanced voice recognition software and microphone help eliminate the risk of repetitive stress and improve one's diction simultaneously (mumblers need not apply).
Pretty much every file type we've ever heard of can be imported and exported, so longtime users of other software should have a relatively seamless transition. The look and feel will be familiar to users of Microsoft Office, though quirks in hot keys, commands, and toolbars will take a few days to master. This might be the only reason not to switch from Microsoft--inertia can be difficult to overcome and novice users may resent learning new tools. However, the strengths, including Adobe PDF publishing, Microsoft's VBA scripting, Web compatibility, and networked file sharing, should convince most open-minded users to consider the merits of WordPerfect Office 2002. --Rob Lightner
Corel WordPerfect Office 2002 Professional is engineered for increased compatibility with open standards (XML, SGML), de facto standards (PDF), and competing technologies (Microsoft Office). The Pocket Oxford Dictionary, an addition to the traditional WordPerfect writing tool package of Spell Checker, Thesaurus, and Grammatik, is an authoritative English-language dictionary giving users the ability to look up word definitions and phonetic spellings, then add text to documents. Corel RealTime Preview lets users save time by previewing formatting changes on the fly before applying them to documents. Users with special needs can take advantage of a suite that is fully accessible, featuring keyboard access, keyboard focus, high contrast, visual alternatives to sound events, and system settings for keyboard input, mouse input, display, and timings. WordPerfect Office 2002 also features an accessible installation program that can interact with assistive software such as screen readers.
Users can extend applications and create tailored solutions with the updated version of Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications, included in WordPerfect Office 2002. Get backward compatibility to version 6.1. Plus, WordPerfect 5.1 for DOS files can be easily imported. With WYSIWYG technology, users save time by getting an accurate impression of their documents before they print. Combine text, charts, spreadsheets, and graphics in one document with suite-wide integration. Additional supporting utilities include multilingual writing tools for over 30 languages such as French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Graphic enhancements include an extensive collection of fonts, clipart images, and photos. Plus, included in the box is the traditional WordPerfect function-key template that users can place on top of their keyboards as a guide or learning tool.
This Professional version includes the following components and applications: WordPerfect 10, Quattro Pro 10, Corel Presentations 10, CorelCENTRAL 10, Paradox 10, Language Module, Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications, Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Adobe Acrobat Reader, Bitstream Font Navigator, and QuickView Plus 5.11.

Not as Advertised,

The package does not include an instruction book as displayed in the ad. I received the CD only without the security code necessary to install it. The marketplace seller includes a coupon to request a hardware device which he claims is out of stock at the moment.

This review is from: Wordperfect Office 2002 Professional Edition (CD-ROM)
Here is the skinny on Corel Office Suite:WP: even now it is still head and shoulders above Word. Word is NOT easier to use as some have said. The best Point of WPerfect is the reveal codes function. I have used it many times to correct some [] Word format document which has insisted on blowing up to 10mb's when the document is only a 3-page document. Yes, I repeat I used WordPerfect to fix word. All of the functions with the exception of 'the send' to email in WordPerfect are simpler and better thought out than that of Word. Pocket Oxford Dictionary and Corel's Application Recovery Manager are MUCH better than the equivalents in MS Word. I particularly love the way the Dictionary is implemented, you can doubleclick a word and it will bring the entry in the dictionary, including common usage almost as indispensable as reveal codes. Advanced voice recognition software and microphone help are features I have no use for, but my great-uncle, (who is 87), swears by it. In his case though, I had to get the Law version, (Harvard lawyer). Personally I can't see how it can be simple to use. But then again my diction isn't the best. Grammatik, hmm what can I say about that, well it is actually useful EVEN if you're not a businessman. This is unlike MS Word, which is really geared toward business sentence structure only. Bitstream Font Navigator is probably one very underused tool. Personally I love it. Adobe PDF publishing is a wonderful add-on. And the HTML capabilities are much improved, though I still find Notepad to be the best HTML editor. XML, SGML seems to be handled correctly, but I wonder. OH and the keyboard shortcuts are usually better thought out than that of Word, though most are the same, in fact most are Windows default. The send to mail would be nice if it would work nicely with Outlook or Outlook Express. The Perfect Expert (WP8) and descendants are actually USEFUL unlike that [] paperclip of MS. The templates and the question/answer of Perfect Expert actually help make a hard or unusual or uncommon report, form, etc. easy to make and to do it correctly. Quattro Pro: is NOT as good as Excel, so if you need a spreadsheet as your main application then I highly recommend MS Office. If your needs are Word processing or SIMPLE spreadsheet functions then and only then is Quattro for you. And even then Excel is better. CorelCENTRAL: well . . . the previous versions where a flop, with good reasons, I am still evaluating the one in 2002 suite. Personally I think a true Outlook replacement would be much better, this would include the ability to just click on a button to send a document in WP to whomever you wanted. I am not sure if this is possible (read EASY) in the present suite. I do know you can, just not how easy it is, and therefore if I can teach my secretary (and other employee's) to use it. As for the relational database, hmmmm well, its easier to use than Access but not as powerful, on the other hand if something is powerful but not easy to use, its useless. MS AND Corel need to work on their respective relational databases. In this respect I would say that for me MS is better but then again I find that even now, 8 years after the venerable 6.1b WP suite and office 95, I STILL need both MS office AND Corel WP suites to be functional in my office. Fact is that for my varied uses, I have to say I need WordPerfect, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, (though I kinda lean toward Presentations now), and Outlook. If you're a big business, then you have no choice but to get MS Office. If you're an accountant, or deal with complicated spreadsheets, than Excel, and therefor MS office is a must. If you're an engineer: Use WP, and give the pointy haired bosses and marketing air heads some headaches. I mean hell, they do it to you, you might as well have fun with them. AND you will love the reveal codes function. I find the other add-ons of the suites to be useful. Usually I find that I prefer the Corel version over the MS version. Like the PhotoEditor, I prefer Photo house (as a simple picture editor). But that is partly just what you are accustomed to using. Photo house is better than photoeditor but not enough to brag about. I hope this helps you make an informed decision. Most of this advice is from experience.

It's a testimony to how far this once great produce has fallen that there are only 3 reviews posted as of my writing. WP SUITE CONS WP SUITE PROS PURCHASING RECOMMENDATION If you regularly exchange files with MS Office users but do not need to put tables or other complex formatting in your Word document, get WordPerfect. But if you really need file compatibility with Office and/or advanced spreadsheet and presentation capability, Office is a better choice than WordPerfect. But there is an alternative... AN ALTERNATIVE
