JOHN'S BEST,
This review is from: Words And Music: Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
IT'S VERY SELDOM THAT I LIKE ALL THE MUSIC ON A TWO DISK SET. BUT I GOT LUCKY, SINCE THEY DON'T GIVE A LIST WHAT IS ON THE CD. I HAD TO GO TO I TUNES TO FIND OUT WHAT'S ON THEM.

This review is from: Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits (2CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
I've listened to Mellencamp occasionally over the last twenty years but never really been interested. This CD showcases both what I've heard and missed and it is rich and varied. The first CD is the strongest with back to back honest, passionate and rocking good music. The second CD is slightly laid back but also chock full of hits, and, above all, good music. It's one to buy and repeatedly listen to.

This review is from: Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits (2CD & DVD) (Audio CD)
This, for better or worse, is a great cd set for the Mellencamp fan. I quite enjoyed the tracks from yesteryear, back in a time when this small town "every man" actually cared about his music and his fans. All the tracks up to circa 1987 are real gems to own, as are the actual albums these tracks are taken from, Uh-Huh, American Fool, Scarecrow, etc.. A time before the introspective belly-aching, and nonsense he makes famous now.The earlier tracks on this compilation (Cherry Bomb and earlier) are complete gold. The other half ( Pop Singer onward) are throwaways. John, I don't want to hear about your obsessions, your conspiracy theories, or your mixed up politics, just go back to making music that can make me relax back, tap my feet and smile. If I want to get depressed, I have cable news. Thanks.
