Magnificent cynicism, but British references abound!,

This review is from: Work! Consume! Die! (Hardcover)
Boyle is as funny on paper as he is in person, although if you haven't heard him deliver jokes, you may not appreciate the style of comedy he offers. Often it's not even comedy, it's just well-written, concise attacks on every subject in modern culture. That's perfect. But Boyle is European, and focuses a lot of attention on Euro matters. If you're not in tune with their politicians, television, and celebrities, about 1/4 of this book will be lost on you. It still FEELS funny, but you don't really get what it's about. Still, I recommend it for everything else, because the autobiographical half of the book is worth the money itself; the rest is just extra goodness.
