Book Description

Aug. 7 2007 Art Encounters
Mike Resnick is a science fiction god—more awards than any other writer in his field!

Salvador Dali's The Persistence of Memory is one of the most memorable images in the world. Everyone who sees this painting wonders: What does it mean? Now the surrealist masterpiece is at the center of a compelling science-fiction story from world-renowned author Mike Resnick. Resnick's first entry in the Art Encounters series, Lady with an Alien: An Encounter with Leonardo da Vinci, was named a Best Book of the Year by the Columbus Dispatch and was called "a most successful encounter!" by Kliatt. Now his remarkable new tale reveals the connection between Dali's celebrated painting and quantum physics...because, it turns out, Dali often traveled to an alternate universe, where he got a lot of his ideas from a young girl named Jinx. Meet Jinx in World Behind the Door, along with Sigmund Freud, Werner Heisenberg, and other historical characters, and discover the shadowy, strange world where all the clocks look like they’re melting.

• Entertaining story of alternate universes

• Packed with intriguing ideas and characters

• Great for school or summer reading

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book! -- but only if you are certain of your sanity Jan. 16 2011

And again, Wow!
I can't say that I've always been a fan of the art of Salvador Dali, but that is only because there was a time that I was not aware of his work. My favorite paintings by Dali are Crucifixion of St. John of the Cross and Portrait of Galarina, but neither of these paintings is mentioned in this book.
Even if Mike Resnick doesn't include my favorites in his book, "World behind the door" is definitely worth reading -- and reading again -- and sharing with your friends.
Like many fans, I have never been a student of the art of Salvador Dali. Then again, I've never been a student of any artist.
I bought this book on a whim -- because I like the art of Salvador Dali. Instead of reading a story, Mike Resnick took me into a new, fantastic world that allowed me to see Salvador Dali as a man. . . and an artist.
To Mike Resnick I can only say", "Thank you!
