"There is no mystery about the potency of this series, slathered in wit, powered by storytelling of a high order." --The Wall Street Journal

Product Description

A lavish look at the real world--both the secret history and the behind-the-scenes drama--of the spellbinding Emmy Award-winning Masterpiece TV series Downton Abbey

April 1912. The sun is rising behind Downton Abbey, a great and splendid house in a great and splendid park. So secure does it appear that it seems as if the way it represents will last for another thousand years. It won't.

Millions of American viewers were enthralled by the world of Downton Abbey, the mesmerizing TV drama of the aristocratic Crawley family--and their servants--on the verge of dramatic change. On the eve of Season 2 of the TV presentation, this gorgeous book--illustrated with sketches and research from the production team, as well as on-set photographs from both seasons--takes us even deeper into that world, with fresh insights into the story and characters as well as the social history.

This is an absolutely BEAUTIFUL book based on iTV's Downton Abbey! The publisher certainly didn't skimp when it came to quality and detail!

I wasn't expecting the book to be as long as it is (it's 300+ pages) but I'm delighted that the author took so much time and effort in writing it. The end result is highly satisfactory! It covers both the first and second seasons of the program and delves into every storyline, every character and every social event (be it a tea party or WWI). Estate life is also examined and fictional characters are compared to real-life people who lived in 19th century England. There is an additional chapter at the end of the book detailing all of the Behind-the-Scenes work that goes into filming the series. This book is crammed full of pictures and interesting tidbits concerning both the cast and crew - you'll absolutely love it if you're a fan of Downton Abbey!

I wonder if there will be another book release when the third series airs?

5.0 out of 5 stars Accurate History, Feb 25 2012

I appreaciated the effort and attantion to datail that went into the costuming and the selection of pictures as well as text that went into the volume.
The video (the screen presentation) lacked accuracy in that the this day of the Somme assault resulted in 60,000 British and Commonwealth casualties.
Also, no experiences combat officer would assualt wearing badges of rank and brandishing a pistol as both would make him a primary target.
