Excellent photos and text, April 22 2005

This is the best of many books I have read about raccoons. It is chock-full of splendid black-and-white photos, and the text is extremely clear, comprehensive, and informative. Unlike some authors who write about these animals, Rue is not given to sentimentality or to "literary" effects. He states the facts plainly, and he has many facts to relate. I read this book through in a very short time and only wished it was longer. My only other regret was that the pictures were not in color (my edition was published in 1964). Reading this book has made me want to read more of this author's works.
