Product Description

The irrepressible Dave Clarke follows his last mixed album, released in 1999 on Fuse, with a brand new compilation World Service for React. Initially striking is the albums beastly proportions with over 40 tracks torn apart with typical Clarke aplomb and reflecting his syndicated Technology radio show with a two-way split which sees the first disc taking in all things techno and the second showing distinctly electro leanings. What must have been a licensing nightmare sees Joey Beltram rubbing shoulders with Jeff Mills and James Ruskin within the techno tome, while the electro section sees 80s celebrators Fischerspooner battling it out with the glorious ultra-synthetics of Adult before Radiohead's Thom Yorke spins in from the turntables. With digital electrickery becoming increasingly de rigour within similar compilations, it's a joy to learn that each mix of World Service was completed in a single take--digital effects thrown in from the desk on the fly as he cuts, scratches and generally terrorises the vinyl in his flit from record to record. --Kingsley Marshall

Album Description

2001 release for the artist behind one of dance music's greatest electronic anthems, 'Red 2', who's gone on to become one of the world's most sought-after techno producers and the genre's biggest DJ. This Two CD pack is entirely representative of Dave's DJing style. CD1 is an uncompromising Club Techno set featuring Jeff Mills, Gaetano Parisio, Joey Beltram, Surgeon and culminating in the Horrorists terrfiying mix of Horrormone. Disc two is an eclectic electro mix, with tracks like the ultra limited Idioteque by Radiohead (of which this is the first compilation to get a licence from Kid A'), Anthony Rother's 'Redlight District', the warped punk electro of New York's Fisherspooner crew and the Detroit sound of electronic funk represented by artists like Adult, Japanese Telecom and Keith Tucker. Slimline double jewel case housed in a slipcase.

3.0 out of 5 stars Dave but not Clarke Jan 16 2003

The record selection is very great, all the clubgroovers are on it and the electro selection is also subtile. But.. the mixing is [not what it could be], everybody who has heard Dave busy alive will agree with me. World Service is [lacking,] mixed with almost no scratches or effects, thats just too bad, otherwise this would have been a classical peace of techno and electro..

5.0 out of 5 stars Oh Sweet Electro Dec 9 2002
Format:Audio CD
Whether I'm traveling through space with my warp collar or performing my daily kegel exercises, I love to put on the electro mix and move my muscles to the beat. It's an experience only akin to eating the flesh of another animal. The techno mix I save for space heat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clarke at his Best Jan 6 2002

I don't know how often Dave Clarke gets over to the States, if some of you guys havn't heard much of his stuff,? He is as important to the development and populization of Techno music as Carl Cox. Disc 1 of this album is simply awesome, kicking UK Techno at its very best.
There is no messing about, straight in at the deep end with mind blowing basslines and almost painfully hard beats all blended with a variety of mixing skills from one of the most respected and woefully unsung DJ's on the planet.
Don't go anywhere near this CD if you like euphoric beakdowns and trancy breaks in your dance music, this is absolutely relentless. It's like Carl Cox at his hardest from beginning to end.
This doesn't come close to seeing the man live, but it will give you a very tasty example of what this guy does.
Lovers of melodic atmospheric music like Oakenfold plays, this may not be for you, but give it a go, because Dance music doesn't get much better.

Disc 2 is an Electro mix, and is both musically and technically superb. A great example to any budding DJ, but for me its like a bonus free CD that I don't really listen to, it's not really my thing.
Don't let that put you off, CD 1 is more than worth the money on its own.
