Product Description

We've tried almost every different oil filter wrench configuration available; adjustable-band models are a good idea but require side clearance. Sized 'cup' wrenches are effective but expensive and fit just one size filter. We were hopeful but skeptical when we found this wrench. We put it to the test on four different vehicles, each with unique and challenging filter placements (obviously designed by engineers who don't change their own oil!) One required a LONG reach through a fender-wall flap and another in an unbelievably cramped compact import. The filters ranged in size from 2-5/8" to 3-1/2" and at least one had been WAY over-tightened. This amazing wrench adapted flawlessly to each one--we removed and replaced filters in record time and didn't swear once. Solid hardened-steel construction and components with corrosion-resistant black-oxide finish.

5.0 out of 5 stars After trying 8 other methods, THIS ONE WORKED!, Jan 6 2012
This review is from: World's Best Universal Oil Filter Wrench - 3 Jaws (Misc.)
I didn't purchase this exact tool from Amazon but purchased a very similar one from my local auto parts store (because I couldn't wait for shipping) and all I have to say is this is the ONLY tool that would take off my stuck oil filter. The dealership torqued my filter on so tight that I ended up trying 8 different ways to remove it (BOA constrictor style, channel locks, standard oil filter strap style wrench, socket style, even the "screwdriver through the side of the filter" trick). I spent almost 4 hours working on it with other tools and once I got this it literally took a matter of seconds to remove it. One of the main reasons the other methods didn't work was due to the location of my filter (under the exhaust manifold and beside an engine mount) so it was very difficult to get to from the side with any tools. If you have access to the end of the filter and have room for a ratchet to move then this is the tool you need (especially if you have a stuck oil filter!!)

3.0 out of 5 stars Jon Erdly, Mar 18 2010

The World's best oil filter wrench worked ok. I also have a Lisle Filter Wrench and like it better because it is spring loaded. The Lisle's grips the filter and does not tend to fall off the filter when applying the tool to the filter and also ratchets easier without falling off. The "World best" has a wider range than the Lisle whereas you would need two oil filter wrenches. The World's best works in two directions vs. the Lisle only will loosen the filter. My oil filter has a rounded end causing the "World best" wrench to only have little contact with the end of the jaws making it hard to apply and use. The World's best is made in Taiwan vs. the Lisle is made in The U.S.A.
Thank you for reading.

4.0 out of 5 stars 3-Jaw Universal Oil Filter Wrench, Nov 11 2008
By Arthur Senior "Small Engine Mechanic" - Published on Amazon.com

Anybody who has worked on a engine knows that they need a oil filter wrench if they want to remove the oil filter off of the engine. I am sure we have all seen those standard oil filter wrenches where you slip them onto the oil filter and pull that lever which tightens it against the filter.

Thats all well and great if your oil wrench is the proper sise for the filter you are trying to remove cause if its not, your out of luck there buddy. I have one of those big rig style oil wrenches and its too big to fit onto 2 inch oil filters and because of that lever, you can't get them up into tight spaces to work them.

So I went looking for an oil filter wrench which would work great for small filters, hence, small engine work. Thats when I found the 3-Jaw universal wrench being sold at Amazon.com. I was a bit worried when I bought this because I saw how small it was in the Amazon image, thought it might not be strong enough.

Oh how I was wrong, first thing I noticed when I took it out of the box was how heavy it was, deffinetly meant for the most tightest of filters. There was a guy at Amazon who said that he went to a hardware outlet to purchase a adaptor because he did not have a 1/2 drive rachet. Oh how I feel bad for him, he waisted his time, essentally he bought an adaptor to adapt from the adaptor.

Hence it came with an adaptor and so if he just pulled the adaptor out, he would have noticed it has a built in 3/8 drive for rachets as well. Oops :(

The jaw is fully adjustable from 2 and 1/2 inches all the way up to 4 inches so thats why its universal. All you have to do is put the jaws onto an oil filter, attach your rachet/socket wrench and begin loosening the filter.

The only thing I don't like about this design is that you must keep holding it, if you let off pressure even for a second, the jaws will slip off the filter. Its not bad however once you get used to it and it works well. You tighten on the filter the same way, just switch your rachet direction switch.

I would have liked to have seen rubber going down the 3 jaws as to protect the filter from getting scratched. If your not worried about cosmetics, then this won't matter to you. But if you have a race car for car shows, you may not want to scratch up your oil filter using this wrench which has no rubber on the jaws.

However, this wrench design has a huge advantage over standard filter wrenches in that you hook onto it from the middle of the wrench. What this means is, you have a hard to reach oil filter in that Honda? No problem, stick on a few extensions, then your rachet, stick it up there and wala, instant access!

All in all I think this is a great oil filter wrench. But it would have been nice to have a lock mechanism on the wrench to keep it from slipping off the filter if you let off pressure. And it would have been nice to have had rubber going up and down the jaws as to keep the filters from getting scratched.

5.0 out of 5 stars A solution for the Subaru finger puzzle, Sep 12 2010

The exhaust manifold on the current 2.5 wraps around the oil filter, making it impossible to twist off the filter from the side. A cap-type plastic wrench will just slip if the filter is on too tight. This is the tool for the job. (Hint: Wrap a plastic bag around the filter to contain some of the oil that will otherwise drip down your arm to the elbow when you finally spin it off.)
