Book Description

July 1 2010

Arch Stanton has a bad job that’s about to get a hell of a lot worse.

He’s sixteen, scrawny, and dirt poor. He has an almost supernatural ability with firearms, but it may not be enough to survive the weekend.

Welcome to Whitewood, California, an isolated small town in northern California, a place full of bad manners and even worse hygiene. Money is tight, jobs are scarce, and bitter rivalries have simmered just under the surface for years.

Fat Ernst runs the local bar and grill. He’d stomp on his own mother for a chance at easy money, and when he forces Arch to do some

truly dirty work, all hell breaks loose.

Fat Ernst’s customers find themselves being infected by vicious, worm-like parasites and dying in unspeakable agony. As events spiral out of control, decades of hatred boil over into three days of rapidly escalating carnage. Will anyone in this town escape... before they’re eaten alive?

Review

"Fans of his particular brand of gross-out horror will relish it."  —Booklist

"Jacobson does a very good job presenting unexpected twists (the origin of worms) and suspenseful moments before the inevitable finally arrives."  —Elder Sign Press

“If you like your books to be fast paced and sick, you're going to want to get your hands on this."  —Paperback Horror

"The antics are high-wired and comical. . . . Although this book is really rather humorous, there are some very horrible events, including one that made me, a huge Stephen King fan, cringe."  —Fresh Fiction

4.0 out of 5 stars Demented Fun at its Best Oct 12 2010
By MikeGibbons - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
This whacked out masterpiece of backwoods mayhem and epic grossness begins incredibly then just just keeps getting better. This is the first novel I've read by Mr. Jacobson and I was extremely impressed with his talent. This book is full to the brim with scenes of amazing grossness that are by turns hilarious and just completely sickening. This interesting combination of humor and shocks reminded me of the best B-Horror films, but way more intelligently put together. Jacobson's writing is extremely tight and filled with vivid imagery. This guy serves up nothing but the pure, high proof hooch here. This is demented fun at its best, highly recommended for those with steel stomachs and weird senses of humor.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wormfood Aug 9 2012

Wormfood was a great read. Ignore the one star review and give this one a chance!

The characters are great and the story is top notch. While there was an epilogue it states in the book that the website of the publisher has a little spot dedicated to even more that took place after the story. I looked but couldn't find it. If there is something out there for this one that is something that I am interested in reading.

I hope someday to hear more from these characters as I am sure there is another story in there somewhere.

Also looking forward to more by this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars A fun read, what more can you ask for April 11 2011
By Jim Kelley - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Paperback
I look for three things in a book: 1) does it keep me interested, not distracted with poor writing or typos? 2) do the characters make me care? Whether I hate them or love them doesn't matter as long as I feel something for them. 3)Is the story any good?

WORMFOOD answered yes to all three hence the 5star rating. Jacobson's writing is clear and straight forward. The characters were great, Arch is your typical shy/quiet type, go with the flow person thrust into a very bad situation. The Sawyers were extreme and over the top, but still perfectly believable--I actually have met people like this. And the storyline is straight forward action horror providing plenty of chuckles and eews along the way.

Great book. Jacobson is a much better writer than 75% of Leisure Horror's authors.
