3.0 out of 5 stars Lacks a (really) sharp point... July 24 2013

I wanted this to replace a trowel i left stuck in dirt between use which after a few years resulted in its point rusting off. the tierra-derco w20230 appeared to have the sharp point necessary for getting beneath the weeds and crab grass in my lawn but the ground is very hard (sun baked desert climate) and it took more effort to penetrate than with my previous tool ....at the garden center a young man, who used to work for the forestry service told me if i took a coarse file and sharpened the blade it would do the trick, something he always did....but i haven't done this as it's easier for me at present to purchase another make of trowel and try again..otherwise it's attractive, well made and would work fine for the majority of soils, even without the sharpening.

Has a good gripping handle for those wet hands, carbon blade not the cheap aluminum that can bend or chip and is powder coated. I use it get rocks from streams or other odd ends. Great price, great little shovel or spade tool!
