Not Good,

This review is from: Wyatt Earp [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
Horrible western. To give perspective-my all-time favourite western is Once Upon A Time In The West. Am a John Wayne fan. Same with Clint. Thought Costners Dances With Wolves was excellent-same with his Open Range and of course Silverado. But this is a waste of time. Watch Tombstone (awesome) instead.

The Best of the Earps,

This review is from: Wyatt Earp [HD DVD] (HD DVD)
A lot of time has been invested by all parties, mostly fans, of 'Wyatt Earp' and 'Tombstone', comparing the merits of each -- and the deficits. The point being determining once and for all which was a better portrayal, which was a better view, which was the ultimate must-keep version of the true-life saga. The rumour was Tombstone; with one reviewer calling Kurt Russell one of Hollywood's best kept secrets, and Val Kilmer's line "I'm your huckleberry." said with poignancy a second time round to stay in the consciousness of its avid fans forever. Well, I have finally purchased both and can say Wyatt Earp is the better. The acting is clear, consistent and the story flows without hitches. Both movies have a long line up of stars and we will remember many of them from better days, maybe future days, but better days. The relationships of the Earp women are more well-defined in Wyatt Earp. In fact, the relationships of all of the characters in this movies are more superiorly depicted than in Tombstone, which is as fragmented and consistent as a dream. Even Tombstone's 'reckoning' is a Hollywood version of 'the mysterious events that followed' though, admittedly, a more lustful and cathartic one. No, 'Wyatt Earp' out-performs in the end, even to the last scene with an older Wyatt and his long-time wife reminiscing over a point in their past. And, the extra length is worth it!

Doc Holliday: "Wyatt Earp? I've heard that name before. Don't know where, but it wasn't good.",
By Annie Van Auken - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Wyatt Earp (DVD)
Lawrence Kasdan's sprawling western biopic WYATT EARP was originally supposed to be a three-night, six hour TV miniseries. It has its strong points (an amazing cast, well-defined characters, attention to detail, striking cinematography) but I always come away with a feeling that something's missing. Maybe it's the other three hours.Too bad Gene Hackman's role was limited, perhaps by editing. Dennis Quaid as Doc Holliday really suffered for his art. He starved off 30+ lbs. to play the tubercular gunslinger. Those who like Kevin Costner (I do!) will enjoy him here. (Look close in some scenes, for that's Wyatt's actual revolver Kevin is holding. It was loaned by the Earp Museum for this film.) Not everyone will like this picture, as it does tend to linger in spots. WYATT EARP is however required viewing for all western movie aficionados. Parenthetical number preceding title is a 1 to 10 imdb viewer poll rating.
