This movie is just good. Good story with the flare of "western and historical. I'm not an expert of Wyatt Earp's life but the way the movie flows it's entertaining.
This movie has a higher story plot with other quality facets than it's alternative production of "Tombstone" (with cursing and other non productive elements that detracts form the over-all movie quality.)
Intriguing Picture of the West and its Settlement May 17 2013

Kevin Costner had a true vision of the West when he directed this film and starred in the lead role as Wyatt. Gene Hackman was outstanding as Wyatt's strong, restless father who demanded family loyalty. Dennis Quaid played a wonderfully irreverent, angry, yet droll, Doc Holiday. He truly looked consumptive.

Some critics have labelled the movie "slow" and "lackluster". I suspect it is because the movie has no horrific crash scenes. Unless their are at least four, a film is labelled "boring". Instead, Costner took the time to develop the characters of his brothers, Virgil, James, Morgan and Warren, and their respective spouses. He also detailed the love he had for his first wife and the effect her death had on him. It was a fascinating look at a family who tried to settle the West when it was neither easy nor safe. It portrays the ways in which the family attempted to make a living while burying their loved ones along the way. The gunfight at OK Corral and the ensuing battle with the Clantons provide plenty of action, if you are at all interested in the settlement of the West and how one special family tried to stay alive and make it work. A fascinating story.

Terrific Score... Jan. 22 2011

The soundtrack to the under-rated film "Wyatt Earp" (which is a prequel/sequel to "Tombstone") is very good. James Newton Howard has crafted a score to remember, bringing out Wyatt the man behind the legend to the forefront. Make no mistake, though: "Tombstone" is also quite good, but this film shows Wyatt's life BEFORE (and a little bit after) the events depicted in "Tombstone" and, as a result, is well-done.

What can you say? The music is classic, it tells the story like "peter and the wolf", "Star Wars". A must have if you like epics.
