Product Description

Product Description

Deluxe two disc (CD + DVD) edition includes bonus DVD. 2011 live collaboration between guitar legend Eric Clapton and Jazz great Wynton Marsalis.. The duo performed together in Rose Theater at Frederick P. Rose Hall, home of Jazz at Lincoln Center for two sold-out shows dedicated to vintage Blues. The extraordinary collaboration, billed as Wynton Marsalis & Eric Clapton Play the Blues, paired these musical virtuosos with members of the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra as they brought to life a repertoire of songs selected by Clapton and arranged by Marsalis. The band nimbly navigated a diverse set list that touched on different styles, from the four-on-the-floor swing of Louis Armstrong's "Ice Cream" and the southern slow-drag of W.C. Handy's "Joe Turner's Blues" to the traveling blues of "Joliet Bound" and the boogie-woogie jump of "Kidman Blues."

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding Oct 15 2011

Format:Audio CD
Clapton and Marsalis reach back a long way into music history and play some of their favourites. If you like New Orleans jazz, blues and a fusion of both, you will love this album.
The musicianship is out of this world, all the players are first rate and the arrangements by Marsalis are beautifully done.
I highly recommend this album. Make it part of your collection today.

5.0 out of 5 stars THis is a historical event Dec 13 2011
Format:Audio CD
Two great musical legends from different arenas meet and share what they hold in common a love for the blues. IT was a serious challenge for Clapton to get on stage with Marsalis and his band. Marsalis has the enviable position of being able to play with the best players in the world and for Clapton to share the stage with them is no mean feat. CLapton is a boy from the English countryside who developed a love for the blues and has been his own interpreter for years. Marsalis is a man who grew up in a family of top musicians in NEw Orleans, deeply steeped in the classic style of blues. These would seem at first an unlikely pairing but when you see and hear them you really get to see how related they are through their mutual love of blues. Clapton is still Clapton. He didnt sell out who he was to do this, he just did what he has always done play the blues with a depth of feeling and understanding that is beyond compare.
This was history being made and the dvd and cd will become collectors items. Well worth having in your collection if you love the blues.

4.0 out of 5 stars Jazz/Blues Nov 17 2011
By NeilG
Format:Audio CD
If you like your blues heavily surrounded by jazz, you will like this CD/DVD. Marsalis and a bunch of great musicians laying down the jazz, and also backing up the master bluesman (Clapton).
I personally, am not a great jazz fan, but this is still a must have, in my collection.
