The drive is great, the Canadian price is not. It's been $179 in the US for a couple months now but still $200 here. Considering the swing the the US/CND exchange this year, this is not a great deal for Canadians. Amazon, please update your pricing!

people have been hesitant to adopt an HD DVD player or Blu Ray player because of the on-going war between the formats, but I realized the only way to decide a winner is if we as consumers got off the fence and tried one formatsince i owned a 360, the HD DVD add on was the cheapest way for me to go High-def, and WOW WOW WOW!! the visuals on a HDTV is superb and it is a relatively cheap way to get high-def content since movies are about the same price on both formats, but if you want to watch Transformers or Shrek 3 or The Bourne Ultimatum in high-def this holiday, you can only do that on an HD DVD player. other great titles like Planet Earth, Batman Begins, Superman Returns, Children of Men all look fantastic on the HD DVD drive. try it out people, you wont be disappointed and it wont hurt your wallet either

I know, I know, many of you are on the fence, and plan to wait out the current format war...Don't wait. 1. After watching HD DVDs, wow... Standard DVD doesn't even come close. It's just incredible how vivid everything is. 2. Blu-Ray disc is not going to win this format war. Chances are, people will just stick with standard DVD, because most people have tube TVs and just don't care. However, HD DVDs are cheaper to produce, and players are much cheaper, especially if the Wal-Mart rumour holds true for Xmas 2007. Blu-Ray is ahead in sales because of the PS3, which is not doing well. HD DVD is going to start gaining very rapidly, and my guess is, is that Blu-Ray will become Sony's latest failure (see Beta, and recently, UMD). 3. Warner has started making TotalHD discs, meaning one side is HD DVD and the other side is Blu-Ray. Others will follow suit. 4. HD DVD/DVD combo discs. 5. There's some movies that NEED to be watched in HD. ** So if you plan on waiting out the rain, expect to be waiting for a very long time. I'm so glad I decided to get this HD DVD drive. It makes movies so much better in every way.
