MadCats hasn't been known for making high quality controllers in the past but they're certainly making an effort to change that with their recent MLG offerings and this controller, the FPS PRO.
This is overall a very solid controller. The grip and finish are incredible, the sticks gorgeous feel to their movements (and they light up, if you care, I don't) and the triggers are nice and quick. The face buttons soft and lack that snap that an official pad has, which just makes them "different" but certainly not bad and do not change the play at all. Same with the bumpers, they feel squishy but that goes unnoticed in the heat of battle.
The combat buttons on the back, while I love the notion, are proving very difficult to use. They are very difficult to find with a regular hand position and have had to really adjust my grip style in order to take advantage of even just one of the buttons. I think a bar or paddle might have been a better choice then an ill placed button.
The d-pad is terrible. Hands down awful. Worst d-pad ever. It is spongy, has to travel too far and offers too much resistance on the way down. And it never feels like a positive connection once fully mashed. It's proved an annoyance when trying (and failing) to activate rewards or secondary weapon modes. It has taken some getting used to but I've finally figured out you need to give it a good pounding to insure it works every time.
Overall, very promising to see where MadCats is headed with their controller technology. I hope to see an improved model soon.
