You may have to re-plug the cable into the controller a few times to keep the red light on and the battery charging. Also note that the battery doesn't get much of a charge if the controller is in use while charging, especially if you've got a headset plugged in. If that's not the case, you may just have gotten a defective product; my rechargeable batteries have lasted for many charges.
