Product Description

From Amazon.com

The Blues Explosion have gotten into a habit of following up their albums with B-side collections. Extra Width begat Mo' Width, Orange begat Experimental Remixes, and now Xtra Acme USA emerges as the child of Acme. This may be the boldest of the Explosion's follow-up releases, 19 tracks (plus a hidden surprise) consisting of remixes and unreleased cuts. Surprisingly, Xtra Acme USA doesn't sag under the weight of guest stars like dirty soul legend Andrew Williams or remixers like Moby and David Holmes. In fact, Williams's vocal turn on "Lap Dance" is hysterically dazzling and Holmes steals the whole show with his gospel-fueled remix of "Talk About the Blues" Unreleased tracks like "Wait a Minute" and "Leave Me Alone So I Can Rock Again" pack just as much punch--maybe even more--as the cuts that made it onto Acme. This may be the funkiest that indie rock has ever gotten. Amen! --Jason Josephes

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic - it rocks all the way home, Oct 22 2002

This album tends to be overlooked by fans and critics. It's their loss because this album is second only to Orange in the Explosion's recording library. It could be called slightly inconsistent, but when it's on, it's ON. "Get Down Lover" steals the show early in the album. But coasting through tracks like "Lap Dance" and "Electricity" proves that you won't be disapointed. This is successfully remixed rock n' roll - don't be turned off by that phrase because it really works. Overall, the album leaves you wound up and ready for more. The end itself says it all, with a hilarious hidden commercial. Once you've finished, I'd be surprised if you didn't play the album over again from the beginning.

5.0 out of 5 stars My current favorite, Jun 27 2002

I own pretty much the entire JSBX catalog, but I must say that "Xtra Acme" is the one that I play most often lately. While "Acme" was a good album -- better than "Now I got Worry" and "Extra Width" -- I much prefer the alternate versions presented here. Overall, "Xtra Acme" has that same sort of experimental flavor and energy that hooked me the first time I heard "Orange" -- arguably the best album JSBX has made to date.

5.0 out of 5 stars Blown away by the BLUES, Aug 1 2000

It is Awesome. If you have seen the blues live, then this is the cd for you. Very raw and more experimental then ACME. Just listen to it for youself and spread the word of the BLUES!
