This statistical publication contains essential information for following the evolution of labour, and of living and working conditions throughout the world. The series presented in the "Year Book" provides statistical information for more than 180 countries, areas and territories, usually covering the last ten years. There is information on the total population and the economically active population, such as activity rates according to sex and age group and in the economically active population according to industry, occupation and status. This edition includes information on total and economically-active population, employment, unemployment, hours of work, wages, labour costs, consumer prices, occupational injuries and strikes and lockouts. Wherever possible, the above data are shown separately according to sex. The chapter on consumer prices enables readers to follow trends in purchasing power, as well as the evolution of prices of groups of consumption items. This statistical panorama of the world is rounded off by information on occupational injuries, and strikes and lock-outs, by industry. The companion volume - "Sources and Methods: Labour Statistics" - provides the methodological descriptions, by country, of the data published in the Yearbook and the "Bulletin of Labour Statistics".
