Product Description

From the back cover: "At the peak of their careers, Anne Brevig and Martin Vennesland made the decision of their lives: they chose freedom and a highly uncertain future on the high seas instead of secure jobs and the safety and comfort of life ashore. In order to finance their dream, they sold their house and most of their belongings and moved onboard their 40-foot sailboat. It became their one and only home for 15 years. Neither imagined that they were going to spend 9 years on the 7 seas and journey more than 56,000 nautical miles!"

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent, excellent book!!! March 14 2010
Format:Perfect Paperback
As an experienced cruiser in many of the areas Anne and Martin travelled during their epic voyage I would rate this book very, very highly.

Rather than a "how-to" book lecturing us on food preparation, or boat maintenance, or raising two school-age kids while sailing around the world, this book simply tells the story of the lifestyle as seen through the eyes of two ordinary, yet extraordinary in their own way, modern sailors.

It tells of the highs: sailing through the San Blas Islands, and the wonderful receptions from indigenous people all over the world, and the lows: suffering a crippling back injury in the Mediterranean and having to deal with the medical system and bureaucracy in Morocco, or running aground in the Indian Ocean.

If you have any interest in sailing around the world, whether in your own boat, on a cruise ship, or simply from the comfort of your armchair, this book is a "must read".

5.0 out of 5 stars This book changed our lives and started us on our adventure Dec 18 2010
By Allan & Nancy - s/v KARMA IV - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Perfect Paperback
More than any other book, 9 Years On The 7 Sea's, was the one journal that prompted my husband and I to drop the procrastination and get on with pursuing our dream of sailing....and setting a goal of wandering the worlds oceans. Wonderful pictures highlight this book but within its pages (and their website […] ) we came to realize this was our road map on how to start the transition from dream to reality for it contains a plethora of information on everything from buying their yacht to equipping it to sailing it. Not just the rosy stuff but the hardships and the worries that accompany the seafaring traveler as they sailed through some potentially dangerous seas. Can't say enough good things about this book but its greatest tribute is that we continue to carry it aboard our own recently acquired 36' sailboat and it continues to inspire and remind us that ordinary people can do a lot with little more than the will to do it. A bargain for what it is, a wonderful collection of experiences of a sailing couple.
