Vittorio De Sica's delightful anthology comedy from 1963 pairs joined-at-the-hip costars Sophia Loren and Marcello Mastroianni in three funny stories about sex. The first finds Loren playing an impoverished woman with a jail sentence hanging over her head. A unique loophole in the law, however, keeps her out from behind bars: pregnant women and new mothers cannot be incarcerated. Forestalling her date with the pokey, this incredibly fecund felon keeps bearing children. Her lucky but exhausted accomplice is played by Mastroianni, who can't resist her siren call between deliveries. The middle vignette finds the two actors playing secretive lovers having an affair. Shot mostly from within and around his car, the pair self-consciously quibbles and keeps having comic mishaps that slow their progress. The last story is the cheekiest, featuring Loren as an expensive hooker whose date with a--shall we say "anxious"--Mastroianni is repeatedly broken up by a neighboring seminarian whose commitment to chastity has been rocked since seeing her. This tale includes Loren's famous striptease, the one Robert Altman sweetly parodied in Ready to Wear. --Tom Keogh

1.0 out of 5 stars DON'T BUY THIS DVD... Nov 29 2004
Format:DVD
It is tragic to see that such a great Sophia Loren flick has been
reduced to this awful transfer on DVD.
Don't buy this DVD, the picture quality is so bad that the entire
movie is out of focus, fuzzy, blurry and hurts your eyes. The sound is all distorted as well.
This DVD is from a company called Entertainment Programs Inc., in California and they have obviously transfered a pan/scan version of a really bad washed out VHS tape on this DVD.
The Picture and the sound quality is worst than a VHS tape recorded in slow mode. I am surprised that Amazon is actually selling this junk.
This is the worst DVD transfer I have ever seen.
I have a VHS version of this movie and the VHS tape is much
better. Hope some reliable company will transfer this gem of a movie on a real high quality DVD, in the meantime save your money and watch your VHS tape. Don't buy this DVD, it is really bad
quality.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally Presented in Widescreen! Feb 11 2009
Format:DVD
I felt tempted to write a review after reading the previous one here. The reviewer was not talking about the fantastic "NoShame" DVD. The "NoShame" release is the only North American DVD presented in widescreen and fully uncut. The DVD contains an extensive booklet, the picture quality is sharp and the audio comes in two languages: English and Italian. If you can find this rare release it's highly recommended!
