5.0 out of 5 stars Great I Ching book!, Nov 20 2004
By Tai Chi Marty - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Yijing Wondering And Wandering (Paperback)
I love this book. Its approach is so different. Each hexagram is examined using the etymology of its Chinese name, e.g. #4 Meng: the piglet who is ensnared in a bramble bush. Also wonderful are the humorous quotes from Chuang Tzu and others, e.g. in the section on Meng: "It is difficult to be muddle-headed. It is difficult to be clever. But it is still more difficult to graduate from cleverness to muddle-headedness."

One can't really say too many good things about this book. Perhaps it's only flaw is that it does not include moving lines. But then it's a book about the relationship of the individual hexagrams to one another. Along with a very deep and poetic examination of the structure of the I Ching, you also get, with each pair of hexagrams, quotations from Lao Tzu and Chuang Tzu, the original voices of philosophical Taoism. I can't recommend this too highly to those with an abiding interest in The Book of Changes.
