Product Description

From Amazon.com

Athletes can build flexibility and strength for their sports by cross-training with a targeted yoga workout. Yoga for Athletes presents 12 different customized yoga sessions ranging from 20 to 60 minutes for each of 16 sports: baseball, basketball, cycling, football, golf, hiking, kayaking, martial arts, rock climbing, running, skiing, soccer, swimming, tennis, volleyball, and weight lifting. Choose your sport, then select from a dozen yoga workouts emphasizing certain muscle groups (such as hips, shoulders, legs) or skills (balance, twisting, strength).

Instruction is slow and detailed enough for beginners to learn the poses. Instructor Barbara Benagh, an avid road cyclist and an advanced yoga practitioner with more than 25 years of teaching experience, uses voice-over to explain carefully how to do each pose. Jason Gordon, an advanced practitioner, demonstrates the poses clearly. --Joan Price

5.0 out of 5 stars What A Gem!, Feb 9 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga Complete For Athletes (DVD)
Here's a DVD that could keep you busy for months with all the pre-mixed workout chapters available on it. The main menu has chapters for your chosen sport; for example, golf, running, skiing, and loads of others. Under each of those categories are many yoga workouts ranging from 20 minutes to an hour in length. You can choose from such workouts as full body, shoulders, legs, and many more (and also with a variety of lengths).

The yoga itself is what I refer to as "general" Hatha style. It is slow-paced, and each pose is held for a little while, allowing you to really get into it and feel the stretch. I consider myself an intermediate-level yogist, and I find this neither too easy nor too hard -- it's just right. A male exerciser performs the exercises, and there is a female voice-over giving the instruction. She is very helpful and precise, often giving you that one little hint that makes all the difference in the pose. The set is a little bland, which is something of a drawback, but who's looking at the TV anyway?

5.0 out of 5 stars Golf Scores And Bends Dropping, July 5 2004
This review is from: Yoga Complete For Athletes (DVD)
I golf with some friends, and when one their games started to improve I asked them what they were doing and they said yoga.

They had read about this title in one of their golf newletters and tried it out.

I borrowed it, then bought a copy for myself an started working with it. The exercises in the golf section have helped me feel better when I am playing and better the day after (the aches from bending and getting up and down that you feel ...)

The sections for the other sports (which I do from time to time) are also good...

This DVD is a good way to help your game and well worth the money, especially compared to the amount of money I otherwise spend on golf.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic!, April 23 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Yoga Complete For Athletes (DVD)
I'm a big fan of the Living Arts series, but this dvd really helped me in my practice. I've seen a signifigant improvement in my understanding of the poses. It can be an intense workout if you do it like you're supposed to and adds a ton of variety. Additionally, if you're short on time, you can pick a quick workout instead of cutting one short.

I have no complaints, but it's worth noting, this program is not heavy on Vinyasa. The moves each stand on their own, instead of flowing from one to the other. Like I said, not a problem, but good to know.
