Product Description

Special Features

Living Arts's Yoga Conditioning for Weight Loss is a fantastic example of how DVD features can be used to enhance a workout program. The same workout is presented five different ways, and you may choose the combined (which shows all four modifications), complete, slightly modified, partially modified, or fully modified program. The four modifications each focus on a different instructor, and the audio instruction explains the specific moves for each level. At any point during the 45-minute workout, you can press the "angle" key on your remote to switch to a different modification level, enabling you to get the best workout you can without straining yourself. In addition, at times a small "personal instructor" icon will appear in the lower right corner of the screen. By pressing enter, the program switches to instructor Suzanne Deason in the yoga studio who carefully explains how to do the pose. Each of these poses are explained based on the level you are watching (for example, at the fully modified level, Deason will demonstrate the pose using bricks or straps). All in all this is an excellent use of DVD features and a great way to grow with a yoga program. --Jenny Brown

4.0 out of 5 stars You don't have to be thin to do yoga! Sept. 9 2004
Format:DVD
This is by far the smoothest yoga routine I've ever seen, and the desert scenery is breathtaking!
Yoga in it's pure form is about breath, focus and meditation, as well as the poses, and Susanne Deason does an excellent job integrating all these aspects. In the west, all the focus is on exercise and doing the poses, but breathing and focusing is an essential part of yoga that makes it much more effective!
And much to my surprise - there are very overweight women doing yoga and doing it well! I weigh 180 lbs and exercise regularly and do a lot of yoga and it's great to see other women the same size who do it too. You don't have to be a skinny toothpick to do yoga! I've known that for 10 years, but you wouldn't know if you look at any other yoga DVD or video.
I love the way the instructor uses voiceover to talk you through the routine while the 4 people do the poses at various levels. She explains so much more than someone who's talking and doing the routine at the same time, and explains it beautifully.
Beats me why they call it weight loss yoga. The routine is slow and soothing, and I haven't lost a pound since I started doing it - but I enjoy it anyways as a great form of relaxation, toning and meditation.
I did not give it 5 stars because of the misleading title only. Otherwise, it's a great workout and would be awesome for anyone who is overweight and intimidated by the super thin, athletic and flexible bodies in all the other yoga DVD's and videos out there. In fact, the second thinnest woman does the most modified & easiest version and two heavier women do the more challenging levels.
Overall - great for overweight yoga enthusiasts and beginners and even someone like me, who likes to do moderate yoga, but is not a beginner.

5.0 out of 5 stars WRONG! about not losing weight with yoga! Jan. 14 2004
By A Customer
Format:DVD
Anyone who says you cannot lose weight doing yoga has not done it for more than 6 weeks. I'm in my 50's, have lost only 20 lbs., but I'm easily wearing ALL the clothing that fit when I was 40 lbs. lighter. Yoga is the only way to explain this amazing result. I've gone from an 18W pant to a 14 regular - after four months of yoga. My butt is smaller than it was in college. Do Yoga! It will change your life!

4.0 out of 5 stars A good all round routine. March 6 2012
By debpar
Format:DVD
Ordered this to replace my VHS copy of it. She's awesome ... I love this DVD. It's perfect for someone who needs a gentle easy to follow yoga routine. It's certainly helped me tremendously. Lots of options for modifications and if you have health issues; that's what you need some days. However it can also be very challenging the higher your fitness level. It's a bit different than the old VHS of the same name but it's so far so good! My only complaint is I wish they'd hold the poses for a little longer for some of us oldies.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Workout Jan. 10 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
I have taken yoga classes and have a few tapes as well. This is my favorite taped workout. It's a nice balance of relaxation and working the muscles. If you are a true beginner, I would take a class to get the basic principles first. However, if you have had some exposure, but are still a beginner/intermediate this is a good DVD for you. I like the instructor, and like the fact that there are 3 other variations (with realistic-looking women, I might add). The combined workout is my favorite: it shows all versions at once (the instructor and 3 other modifications), and is good if you can do some of the poses fully, but have a few that still challenge you. By showing you each modification, the DVD demonstrates how you can step it down but still keep a correct position.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Second Yoga Workout! Jan. 23 2003
By A Customer
Format:DVD
I have been Jane Fonda's Yoga Workout for the past year or two, but decided I needed a little bit of a change. I saw the DVD for this workout and thought I would give it a try. I must say, I am glad I did. I still do Jane Fonda's Yoga Workout, but do this one also as an added bonus to further improve my fitness.
This is very good yoga workout. I really like the idea of having four different people doing different levels of the same workout. This way, it can be accessible to people of all levels of fitness, flexibility, etc. There is also a feature on it called the Personal Instructor. This is great if one is not sure how to do a position. It was filmed in a very beautiful location in Arizona which makes it that much more relaxing. Suzanne Deason is a great instructor. She has done voice-over which takes you all the way from beginning to end without leaving you hanging wondering what to do next. There is a warm-up period, the workout period that includes a variety of poses, then there is a 14 minute cool-down ending in the Relaxation Pose. Suzanne tells you to stay in Relaxation Pose as long as you like. Really good for reducing stress, etc. I highly recommend this workout for anyone no matter what one's level of fitness may be. Each instructor does great with each level of the workout. There is fully modified for people with that are not flexible. There is 1/2 modified for people with some flexibilty (which I do). There is 1/4 modified for people that are a bit more flexible. Then there is the full pose workout for experienced yoga practitioners.

5.0 out of 5 stars A tool for weight loss April 25 2004
By Amanda
Format:DVD
While this video alone will not enable you to lose weight, it is however a wonderful tool to help you on your weight loss journey. My favorite part of this DVD is that it has 4 different levels of programs for you to do as you progress in your fitness level. This was my first yoga DVD so I also benefitted from help icons that pop up for you to use.
The best thing about the DVD is that it helps me to feel energized, centered and balanced. I do break a sweat but only when doing some of the more advanced routines. You will need to use some thing else for aerobic exercise though.
Also, if you are a beginner you will need to buy foam bricks, a mat and a strap.
Still this remains on of my fave yoga dvds
