5.0 out of 5 stars a chilling debut, Oct 11 2006

This review is from: You Belong To Me (Mass Market Paperback)
This debut novel marks Patricia Sargent's entry into the chiller field. She gives you strong characters in a riveting drama, which kept me spellbound from start to finish. I was very impressed by the depth of her characters, not perfect people, but people with dreams, desires - and faults.

Nicole Collins is a struggling writer, so she's thrilled when her first book is optioned to be made into a movie. A Sci-Fi thriller, it's Nicole's dream come true...until she discovers her former husband owns the company that is producing her novel. She still loves Malcolm Bryant, but she's gone through the crucible of loving a man and not respecting him. No matter how strong the love, the beauty and wonder soon fades under the continued disappointments. Unable to live with Malcolm and not respect him, Nichole had turned her back on this man who just wasn't there when she needed him.

Now she is facing a new terror. An obsessed fan turn stalker. Letters have reached her. She wanted to dismiss them; no one would want to think their novel - and her - have become the object of a deranged mind. The faceless man is out there. His obsession sees him blurring the line between reality and fantasy. In his mind, the characters Nicole created in her novel are real; they are his "family" and he's not pleased about his family being portrayed on film in a light he doesn't approve of.

Bad things are happening to Nicole. Malcolm's business partner is killed, and suddenly the horror is in her life, stalking her, wearing a mask that hides madness and blaming her for his "family" being under "attack". Only with her life in danger, can she depend on Malcolm to help her, save her from this unseen menace, or will he fold under the adversity as he has in the past?

I utterly loved the premise. Sargent breathes life into the stalker genre by giving you a less than heroic hero, and a woman who loves him despite him being less than she needs. A very interesting, visionary writer that I hope to hear more from soon.

"You Belong To Me is a great story containing a suspenseful plot with interesting characters that are real people with real problems."

"Nicole happens to be the ex-wife of Malcolm. She is reluctant to sell the movie rights when she discovers that Malcolm is part owner of Celestial Productions. However, a family crisis forces her hand. She agrees to the movie deal and decides to work on the project to ensure the film stays true to the integrity of her novel."

5.0 out of 5 stars You Belong To Me Introduces a New Voice in Romantic Suspense, Nov 25 2006
By Marcia A. Anderson "journalist" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: You Belong To Me (Mass Market Paperback)
You Belong to Me is a keeps-you-on-the-edge-of-your-seat romantic suspense from an exciting new author, Patricia Sargeant. A divorced couple, Nicole Collins and Malcolm Bryant, are reunited when his movie production company buys the rights to her science-fiction book series. Not only does the couple have to face unresolved emotions, but they discover there's someone who's deadly determined to stop their movie from being made. Their very survival depends on their ability to work together to catch a killer.

I enjoyed taking the roller-coaster ride along with Nicole and Malcolm, as they faced a murderous threat and struggled to deal with their past and their love. The insider look at the publishing industry and the movie-making business was fascinating and added a layer of detail to an already outstanding story. The characters were compelling--including the secondary ones--and easy to root for. And the plot twists were clever and unpredictable. I look forward to reading more by this talented author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great read, Aug 24 2007
By Ann Aguirre "Ann Aguirre" - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: You Belong To Me (Mass Market Paperback)
This book offers a type of love story that is somewhat difficult to pull off: two exes trying to get it right the second time around.

I loved Malcolm. He really rang true, especially with not wanting to show weakness around the woman he loved. He found it difficult to express his emotions, which was part of why they split up in the first place, despite still being crazy in love with each other.

Nicole was good too. I liked how her devotion to her family made her face her fears of dealing with Malcolm on a daily basis. What woman wants to risk getting her heart broke again? But Nicole braves the situation in order to help out an ailing cousin.

The book offers a nice blend of suspense and romance, an all around good read.
