Product Description

From Amazon.co.uk

Over the years Van Morrison has steadfastly refused to be categorised. Since 1968's classic Astral Weeks, he has embraced folk, R&B, pop, rock, jazz, blues and gospel. Back in 1988, Van joined The Chieftains on Irish Heartbeat to celebrate his love of traditional music. Later, on The Skiffle Sessions, he returned to the music of his teenage years. Now in partnership with Linda Gail Lewis, sister of piano-pumping Jerry Lee, Van revels in country & western, shot through with a healthy slice of R&B. Highlights include three Hank Williams songs--"Jambalaya", "You Win Again", "Why Don't You Love Me"--and this is a timely reminder that the original Fifties rock & rollers like Jerry Lee Lewis drew as much on white C&W as on black R&B. The lack of original material stops this being vintage Van--amidst the Fats Domino and Bo Diddley covers is just one Van original, the quirky "No Way Pedro"--but this is still a welcome addition to an awesome back catalogue. --Patrick Humphries

Come on folks... Sep 9 2010
Format:Audio CD
Come on folks...adjust your moods with whatever and kick back and relax. Enjoy two free spirits having fun creating music that is not meant to be analyzed but simply enjoyed. Get up and dance (or just wiggle) and be sure to only play this good stuff after midnight when energy is needed to keep things rolling.

OUCH! Feb 10 2003
Format:Audio CD
Why Van ever decided to do this side project is a mystery. The music is predictable, given that he teams up with Jerry Lee Lewis's sister (roots rockers, including tunes by Hank Williams, John Lee Hooker, & Lewis himself). Although she certainly inherited her brother's ability on piano, Linda Gail Lewis's voice is unexceptional, bordering on irritating. And the combination of the two voices certainly doesn't work. If you're looking for this type of music, you'd be much better off going with Jerry Lee himself.

Another Super Job by Van!!! Dec 27 2002
Format:Audio CD
First of all, I CANNOT believe that someone (previous reviewer) could call this album an embarrassment! This is good, old-fashioned music, performed with heart and lots of energy! Van is the man; he could sing the ABC's and I'd buy it! I just received this CD for Christmas, and I had somewhat low expectations, but I was blown away by the tunes and the sound quality. Linda Gail Lewis has a fine voice and "killer" piano ability. Don't buy this if you expect it to be 1970's-style Morrison. However, if you like good music, of any kind, you should truly enjoy this!

The duets here (only from the sound bites) sound as if 2 singers are singing the songs at the same time. The voices don't blend well together. Read more
