This review is from: You Bet Your Life (Audio CD)
Many decades ago on late night tv I used to watch reruns of You Bet Your Life and was amazed that this show was so funny and required now of the empty theatrics of modern game shows. Who need pyrotechnics when Groucho was an entire 4th of July display. His interaction with his guests was remarkable at times. For a long time I've tried to find audio recordings of the radio show and discovered this wonderful collection. My sole disappointment was that they are not complete episodes but rather just the introductory banter between Groucho and his guests. It's is only minor quibble and found a great deal of the selections included to be absolutely hysterical and a great showcase of Groucho's razor-blade sharp wit, especially if someone was attempting to one-up him. Now you're dancing with the big boys. It is not surprising that Chaplin himself envied Groucho's verbal abilities. Any fan of Groucho will find a treasure trove of laughs in this collection.
