This is just an amazing book! From real people, with a real budget, and with a real sense of starting from the beginning or at any other decorating stage you may be at. Whether you've waved a paint brush around before, or it's the first time holding one, this book has got you covered. With 243 different projects, and more available on their site, you're going to find at least a few, or a few dozen, you'll want to re-create. John and Sherry have been through it all, and know how to walk you through it too. With funny quips and real personal stories, you can't help falling love in love with this couple, their style, and their chihuahua Hamburger. I would recommend this book to EVERYONE!!

This is the best DYI book ever made, I enjoy every page of this wonderful book. The authors are just awesome!

Young House Love is one of the only blogs that I read fairly religiously but I did not plan to buy their book. I think they are great fun and while I often really love their overall taste and style, I'm sometimes disappointed with their diy projects. The bigger projects, they tend to spend a lot of time on and execute really well such as building their own furniture, etc. but a lot of the smaller projects on their blog don't do much for me. Their book was given to me as a birthday gift and I was happy to receive it. As I first leafed through the book, I was initially impressed with some neat ideas and projects that stood out to me and found the colours, pictures and illustrations fun and eye-catching. Once I gave the book a more thorough go through, I still found the book fun and inspirational but found some of the project info a little lacking - especially when only an illustration accompanied the description. If a fun photo accompanied a bit of a basic description than it wasn't so bad but I feel like they should have pushed through to have photos of all projects, even if that meant less of a total overall number. I also found there to be a couple of "ideas" that were so basic that I was surprised/disappointed that it made the many edits. At no point did John or Sherry or their editors stop and wonder if "put a light on your night table" was an idea original enough to warrant print in their book?!

All said the book is fun. I may have been a little more disappointed had I spent my own money. But it is definitely fun and inspiring enough to earn a home in my living room to leaf through at random. I think it makes a really nice gift for the person who likes to be inspired but might not shell out the cash themselves. And whether you read their blog or not, the Petersiks definitely do have a charm to them that makes leafing through the book a little more personal and fun.
