Book Description

Nov 25 2008
From the #1 New York Times bestselling master of suspense comes a riveting thriller that probes the deepest terrors of the human psyche—and the ineffable mystery of what truly makes us who we are. Here a brilliant young man finds himself fighting for his very existence in a battle that starts with the most frightening words of all…

At thirty-four, Internet entrepreneur Ryan Perry seemed to have the world in his pocket—until the first troubling symptoms appeared out of nowhere. Within days, he’s diagnosed with incurable cardiomyopathy and finds himself on the waiting list for a heart transplant; it’s his only hope, and it’s dwindling fast. Ryan is about to lose it all…his health, his girlfriend Samantha, and his life.

One year later, Ryan has never felt better. Business is good and he hopes to renew his relationship with Samantha. Then the unmarked gifts begin to appear—a box of Valentine candy hearts, a heart pendant. Most disturbing of all, a graphic heart surgery video and the chilling message: Your heart belongs to me.

In a heartbeat, the medical miracle that gave Ryan a second chance at life is about to become a curse worse than death. For Ryan is being stalked by a mysterious woman who feels entitled to everything he has. She’s the spitting image of the twenty-six-year-old donor of the heart beating steadily in Ryan’s own chest.

And she’s come to take it back.

"Koontz gives readers a fable containing moral ambiguity and musings about the nature of good and evil that exists within us all.... [This] puts Your Heart Belongs to Me squarely in the column of must- reads."—Denver Post

2.0 out of 5 stars What a let down Dec 9 2008
By Dee
Format:Hardcover
Dean Koontz is one of my all time favorite author but Your Heart Belongs to Me was such a let down!

The story line is a very good one and could have been an amazing story about a very rich fellow, Ryan, needing a heart transplant to live and this female stalker wanting the heart back.

I found myself skipping page after page waiting for the book to blow me away. Unfortunatelly it never did! I was hoping the book would redeem itself with an explosive ending, but.....

Will I still read Dean Koontz books? Absolutelly!!!! Maybe next time though I will get the book from my library.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone. Sep 14 2011

This book is as close to literature as Dean Koontz gets. If you are looking for the typical Koontz tale filled with drama, mysticism, and action, don't spend anymore time reading this review. Don't bother with this novel either. You won't like it. The plot is practically non existant. Action? that will be hard to find as well. Some mysticism but not enough to compensate for the other missing factors.

Your Heart Belongs to Me is a psychological analysis of both the main character and, in a very clever way, the reader as well. I was not at all perpared for this when I sat down to read it, and I was caught off guard. I hated the story for the first two thirds. I'm not exagerating when I say nothing happens. The final section of the book is much more interesting and if you can bear with it until the end you will understand what the whole book was about.

In this story Kootz uses the readers sympathetic acceptance of the main character to manipulate us into seeing events only through his eyes. While using the story's conscience, through the character of Sam, to prod us into paying closer attention. This is, at it's heart, a moral tale. When I reached the end I felt as though I had failed the test. I wasn't able to overcome my bias toward the main character and appreciate what was really happening.

Your Heart Belongs to Me is not easy to get through. I don't recommend it to anyone looking for a good fun weekend read. It is however an excellent analysis of human nature and morality. Don't expect action, but don't expect Steinbeck either. If you like a book that makes you question your own perceptions of the world you might enjoy this book. It's not for everyone, but it made me think about myself and question my assumptions.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not sure how to rate this book Aug 25 2009

Format:Hardcover
This is the first book D. Koontz that I read. After reading it I am not sure if I will purchase a book of him again.
I finished this book because I was curious how it would end. I found it a bit strange.
The whole story is about a self-made young millionaire who suddenly gets serious health troubles.
He was put an certain kind of list from donor transplantation. After receiving the needed organ he starts receiving strange gifts and treats from someone. That someone turns out to be the (twin) sister of the deceased. They encounter at an certain point and that should have lead to a certain climax. Only the end is strange. What happens to the perpetrator?
This book had for me too much loose ends.
