Product Description

How do you know he's The One? Are you getting butterflies just thinking about him? Have you dreamt of marrying him? Do you just know? When Lucy meets Nate in Venice, she knows instantly he's The One. And, caught up in the whirlwind of first love, they kiss under the Bridge of Sighs at sunset. Which -- according to legend -- will tie them together forever. But ten years later, they've completely lost contact. That is, until Lucy moves to New York and the legend brings them back together. Again. And again. And again. But what if Nate isn't The One? How is she going to get rid of him? Because forever could be a very long time...A funny, magical romantic comedy about how finding The One doesn't always have to mean happily ever after.

3.0 out of 5 stars A feel good read, April 4 2012
By Fida Jiryis - Published on Amazon.com
Nate and Lucy are fresh out of school when they meet in Venice, fall in love and spend weeks together idling amongst the art, cobblestones and markets. While there, they take a gondola ride under the Bridge of Sighs and kiss at sunset, as the church bells chime in the distance. At that point, a legend kicks in, which under those specific conditions, is guaranteed to bind the lovers together forever.
No such luck is apparent, however; they take off shortly afterwards to their respective lives and promise to be in touch, but the realities of a long-distance relationship prove to be too taxing for Nate and he soon breaks up with Lucy over the phone, telling her he's met someone else.
Lucy is utterly heartbroken and spends most of the next ten years reminiscing about him, though she tries to get on with her life in the meantime, acquiring (and losing) several boyfriends.
Fate throws the two together, miraculously, through a tiny art gallery that Lucy arrives at to take a job in New York. They are overjoyed and completely in awe at the infinitesimal chance of their meeting that somehow transpired. They quickly try to pick up exactly where they left off.
But ten years has taken its toll and Nate has turned into a very successful and completely obnoxious TV presenter. Lucy sees his ego and neurosis and realizes that her idol, whom she has cherished and dreamed of all these years, is in fact shattered. She opts out.
The legend, however, doesn't think so. Crazy things start happening to both of them to pull them together. They spend the better part of the story trying desperately to... part. Friends, siblings and ex-spouses are thrown in to the whirlwind as Nate and Lucy try to explain. Nothing is working.
Finally, Lucy has a last, desperate idea and takes Nate, kicking and screaming, to Venice. When the legend is finally broken, the reader feels a happy relief.
A hilarious, feel-good read that makes you burst out laughing every few pages. Potter is funny, witty and very human.

1.0 out of 5 stars Impressively cliche, Jan 27 2011

This review is from: You'RE the One That I (Don'T) Want A-Format (Paperback)
Utterly predictable, silly and amazingly cliche. It tries, too hard, to be witty, which just make it silly and anything but clever.

I feel badly being so harsh about someone's work, but wow. If I wasn't a whole continent away from where I purchased this book, I'd try to return it and get my money back.

I read about half of it, out of sheer desperation while traveling, but will not bother finishing it. Anyway, I can guess what happens and won't waste my time reading the rest.
