Book Description

March 6 2013
Think you’re doing your kids a favor telling them what perfect angels they are?  Think again.
Former Criminal Prosecutor, mother and stepmother Loni Coombs has witnessed too many times the shockingly negative effects of what most parents feel to be the very best parenting techniques. They think, “I’ll give my children what I never had, I’ll pave their way to success, I’ll take care of their problems,” and then they’re blindsided by their children’s utter helplessness when it comes to thriving in the real world, their inability to get and keep a job, even their unexpected run-ins with the law. What went wrong? This book solves the mystery.
""The ugly truth parents need to face is that telling your children that they are perfect and shielding them from the consequences of their actions while insisting that every child gets a first-place trophy is not good parenting,"" says Coombs. You’re Perfect… is the urgent wake-up call that the parents of the “Me Generation” so desperately need, and the easy-to-implement information within its pages could change the course of millions of young lives for the better.
You’re Perfect… is your crash course in real-world parenting and will teach you:
•  The dangers you may be exposing your child to
•  How to transform your child's self-entitlement into self-control
•  How to get your children to treat you with respect
•  The warning signs indicating your child is at risk for delinquency
•  How to tackle drug and alcohol problems
•  When to invade your child's privacy
Whether you’re holding a newborn in your arms or you’ve got an 18-year-old spiraling out of control, this is the guide every parent should have to be prepared for the unexpected and to protect their children from society’s dangerous pitfalls.

Review

A balance of accountability, love, commitment and common sense. You're Perfect is a no-nonsense guide filled with essential information and practical tips all parents need to keep their children out of trouble and on the right track. A must have! --Lisa Boesky, Ph.D.,author of When to Worry: How to Tell if Your Teen Needs Help—and What to Do About It

About the Author

Loni Coombs has a unique and valuable perspective on parenting in today’s world. As a former prosecutor for the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, she saw family after family face the brutal reality that their child wasn’t as “perfect” as they so wanted to believe. She worked with parents of young people put into prison for everything from drug possession and theft to murder, and in so doing, developed a sincere passion for helping families avoid these tragic times. But what truly makes her message powerful is her ability, as a mother and stepmother herself, to convey heartfelt support and empathy for all parents.

This book covers it all from baby to 18. She even tells what to do if you child is ever arrested. Would would you do? She goes step by step on how to deal with many teen problems, from drinking to promiscuity. A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for ALL parents! March 18 2013
By Jean - Published on Amazon.com
Format:Hardcover
This is a well-written, easy to read book about the dangers of spoiling your kids! As a mom of 3, I see a lot of parents who refuse to believe their children ever do anything wrong (always someone else's fault), are scared to say no to their kids (oh, no! what if my kid doesn't like me?!) and are just lazy. Well, this behavior can pay off, and not in a good way! It is about time someone brought these issues to light in a readable and relatable way! I would love to give it to MANY parents I know... hoping they realize THEY are why their kids are maybe behaving the way they are.
Highly recommend!!

Book is well written and perfectly describes the 'modern' parent that is always trying to keep their kid from the real world by not being honest and coddling their offspring.

A common sense approach at best. Well written, easy reading.. but nothing common sense doesn't already dictate. Save your money on this one.

This book met my needs as a parent, beginning discussions with others about the confusing world of patenting. This book is funny, honest and practical.
