While I can't say that I'm a true anime fan, I truly loved this series. I like that blend of ancient mystery with newer history. I'm not really a fan of series that contain weird little spaceships, etc.
Some other of my favorites: Priness Mononoke, Gestalt, Titan AE, Speed Racer (heh, yeah, showing my age).

This Ys Legacy DVD contains both the Ys Book I and II DVDs AND Ys II Castle in the Heavens DVD. So you've no reason to buy any other DVD (I've been fooled and bought "Castle in the Heavens" separately), since this Ys Legacy contains ALL the existing anime related to the Ys game.

HASH(0x9705209c) out of 5 stars Beautiful little "old-school" series. July 8 2007
By Michael Gmirkin - Published on Amazon.com
So, okay, I really enjoyed this series. I'll start there.

Now, I'll note that the animation is appx 80's "old school" in terms of character design. So, if you're not into that, it might turn you off *slightly* But fear not, the series itself is actually pretty good, as far as anime action / fantasies from the period go.

The DVD menus are actually pretty funny, as they emulate an 8-bit Nintendo video game. The titles of menu options are slightly off-putting, but they kind of fit with the 8-bit Nintendo theme. Ys was based off a game of the same name, I think? I've never played the game, but the anime was fun.

Over all, I think it was a good series and is worth a watch or two. Ys - Legacy contains Ys I (books one and two) and Ys II (so, truly the "complete series"). I'm pleased with this one, and you should be too. Keeping in mind the "old school animation." Some like it, some don't...

HASH(0x970522f4) out of 5 stars A Must Have Complete Set June 5 2009

This is a complete set of all the current Y's anime. If you are a fan of the game, I highly suggest you pick this up.

The style itself is classic older anime, and I suggest against viewing this dubbed, but if you must, you will notice inconsistencies with names and pronounciations.

The menu setup is great, based on the old home computer interface of the JP version of the original games.

The extras are also great, with some classic (albiet "bad" by today's standards lol but still entertaining nonetheless) J-Rock, a trailer for an Y's 4 anime(which never took off), character bios, art, and more.

This is definitely for the anime enthusiast, video game enthusiast, and Y's enthusiast, but if you're new to anime, I'd still suggest picking it up as it might be hard to come by eventually, but I would suggest trying to find some sample video clips prior to opening it to see if it's something you can enjoy.

Fans however, I don't think will be disappointed by this, as it makes great time covering both stories (Y's 1 and 2) without much filler that would normally hurt a storyline for a video game anime.

If you're not a fan, but interested, I suggest reading a quick Wiki on the first two games (without spoilers, if applicable) prior to viewing, but it's really not necessary as the collection here covers it entirely, and pretty well (being that it's not the actual game).

I'm glad I made this impulse purchase without even doing my research, and I rarely do that. So I decided to write a review for anyone who wanted to do the research I never did.

Too bad when they remade Ys book 1&2 they didn't release an updated version of this. Awesome anime though so much better then most of today's anime. Seems all they do now is hentai or giant robots
