4.0 out of 5 stars Another hit from Julia and Axel Mar 24 2012

Excellent story and great artwork. Another brilliant offering from this pair. Not my favorite Julia Donaldson (I like Tiddler and Snail and the Whale best) but the story has depth and a message and is fun to read and to listen to. We had fun finding the little gruffalo picture hidden in the artwork :o). Best suited to ages 3 to 7.

Yet another beautiful book by this author. Great story and pictures, all our kids (6,4,2) love it and ask to read it almost every night.

5.0 out of 5 stars Our Favorite Book Feb 7 2011

My toddler loves this book and so do I. It's wonderful for so many reasons: The colorful, beautiful illustrations, the original and engaging story line and an inspiring but subtle message about breaking out of traditional gender roles (the princess wants to be a doctor, not prance around in a frilly dress). It's also written in rhyming verse, so it's fun to read aloud and pleasing to listen to.

Another Julia donaldson Axel Shaeffler hit. I loved this book and will add to my ever growing collection of this classic story telling at it's best. Great to read and my boys loved the illustrations.
