Finally found a food jar that keeps food warm for hours,
By C.How (Canada) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Zojirushi SW-EAE50XA Stainless Steel Food Jar (Kitchen)
I love this food jar. It works very well. I fill with hot water and leave for 10-20 minutes. Heat food in microwave, then fill the food jar. Pack your food down to not leave too many air pockets. I pack my food ~ 7:30 am and eat lunch around noon and it's still warm to hot. Highly recommend.

This works as a thermal pot,

I found a lot of people only use this one to keep good warm. In fact, this one works just like a thermal pot, it can cook food. I usually put rice, and hot water in, and by lunch time, there goes my congee.

Heat leaks out of the lid,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Zojirushi SW-EAE50PA Stainless Steel Food Jar, 17 ounce, Pink (Kitchen)
Zojirushi is a brand I trust and I have been really happy with the thermos bottles I purchased from this brand. The lid needs to be re-designed -- heat escapes from the vent inside the lid and the lid gets quite warm (hence I know heat is leaking out).I mix my oatmeal/cereal and boiling water into this food jar when I leave for work and the oatmeal/hot cereal is "cooked" by the time I get to work and ready to eat! Since I only use this to bring hot cereal/oatmeal from home to work for breakfast, the heat leak is not a problem for me. But unlike their thermos bottles that can keep ice water cold even after more than 20 hours, the performance from this food jar is not what I would expect from Zojirushi. My "guess" is that you will be ok if you eat your food within 2 hours. Other than this issue, this is very well-made, high-quality all around, exactly as one would expect from Zojirushi. 10 of 13 people found the following review helpful

The Non-Insulating Thermos,
By Greg - Published on Amazon.com
This review is from: Zojirushi SW-EAE50XA Stainless Steel Food Jar (Kitchen)
I bought this item thinking it would work as well as an old Nissan thermos I own. I was mistaken. Although the stainless steel sides of this container are vacuum sealed, the wide mouth plastic cap has absolutely no insulation. This is like heavily insulating a house and then leaving all of the windows open. The result is that boiling hot food placed into the preheated container is room temperature within 4 hours. This is an incredibly poorly designed thermos.

One of the best!,

My experience has been great with this lunch jar. The food stays hot until lunch and has been great for my kids. Perhaps the previous reviewer had a defective one. But will try the Nissan!
