ZombiU is one of those rare launch games that could have failed on so many levels. Fortunately it does a great job of creating a fun and vivid world and just plain being a fun game over all. This isn't Resident Evil 4-6. This is a slow paced game, exploration is key. Item management is crucial. The game uses the new gamepad in unique ways. Hold it in front of you and you can scan the environment for items and enemies. This turns your living room into a virtual game space since you have to move the gamepad around in order for your character to do the same. What makes it effective is that you are looking through your gamepad and viewing the game as if you were the character on screen. Going into your backpack causes your character to drop to one knee while you frantically swipe the gamepad to arrange your items. You can be attacked if you do not keep an eye on the main screen as you play with the gamepad. Finally, it acts like a radar. You press a button and Zombies will "ping" on the gamepad's map of the area. You may have noticed that I mentioned your character without giving a name. That is because you will be playing as many different characters. When one dies, your new character must find the zombie version of the character you just played in order to reclaim your items. The game is fun, but the combat does take some time to get used to. I went through a stretch where I lost four characters in about ten minutes before I was able to beat the battle. Once you get the hang of combat, the game become much more fun. If you like horror games, and miss the fact that "scary" games just are not scary anymore, than this game is for you.
