4.0 out of 5 stars Catchy Rock but difficult Language, July 7 2000

As an English speaker I came upon BAP by chance. They were for years Germany's most popular home-grown act. But they do not sing in Standard German nor English for that matter but Koelsch, the dialect of Cologne. Of their recordings I've heard this is their best. Whilst most of their material on this CD is straight forward guitar based rock, and catchy at that, they are supremely versatile and there are slower acoustic based songs, which are hauntingly beautiful. Many English speakers will have difficulty with the harsh sound of the Koelsch vocals, but adventurous types will enjoy this great music.

Once I had a german boyfriend who was from Koln, Germany. He introduced me to the music of BAP. The group was totally new to me. I am Belgian and I had never heard their music over there. On my turn I introduced BAP to some friends, also American friends who shared my entousiasm for the group. We were overwhelmed by the music. Even if you do not understand the Koln dialect, you'll be swept away by the melodies. On the other hand if you do understand a bit of german you'll notice that the level of the lyrics is higher then the superficial 'I love you, don't leave'-thing. I had a copy of this album in 1985 on a little cassette, wich I played over and over again till the quality went so bad I had to throw it away. To be honest, I forgot about the group over the years. But now, whilst browsing I bumped in to them again and I'll buy my copie of this CD. You should do the same if you love mature rock.
