I was curious about this collection since I've read most of the author's novels, but had never encountered her short stories before. Some of the earlier stories are not as smoothly written as her later ones and still show signs of an author trying to hone her craft, but all in all, I was glad I read this. I was particularly glad for the stories that filled in more background details on my favourite character of hers, Lydia Chinn.
